[EN/PT-BR] I'm a hostage to sugar! I don't stop, but I reduce it!
If there is one thing that is considered a real poison for our body and our health, it is sugar, but, despite being present in almost everything we consume, like its antagonist “salt”, it is difficult to change your routine throughout our lives and reduce or even eliminate sugar from our meals and snacks. So what can we do? Is there a magic formula that could completely rid us of sugar?
Well, if there is something that can completely eliminate the use of sugar in the things we eat, I don't know, but for me, my experience is simply to reduce it, but to completely stop using sugar is impossible for me. As a sugar lover of sweets and chocolates, there would be no way to cut it out completely, but despite knowing all the risks of its high consumption, I cannot apply a suitable substitute, even thinking about my health and what bad things could happen in the future, i am stuck with this evil sweetness every day in my life.
Of course I have tried using sweeteners, but I couldn't like it, because when I put it in coffee or anything else, it feels like I'm drinking one of those bitter syrups that my My mother gave me sweeteners when I was a child and that's why I don't use sweeteners at all, even though they might be less harmful to our health, I couldn't adapt. Brown sugar is a really good option, sometimes I managed to buy it and I practically didn't notice any difference in the taste of the food I consumed.
So why not include it in my daily routine? Simple: the high cost of buying it frequently. Unfortunately, I know that health is priceless, But I really can't afford to buy brown sugar weekly or monthly for myself and my family. So here comes the last resort, which is what I use most to avoid high and uncontrolled sugar consumption: avoid it at all costs! It seems simple enough, but it isn't. Giving up eating sweet things frequently is not an easy task.
To give you an idea, there was a time when every time I had lunch here at work, I always bought a soda, so five days of work (Monday to Friday) plus the weekends were filled with soft drinks up and down. Then one day I started to worry about it and learned to have lunch without drinking anything, just a glass of water at the end of the meal, so I avoid soda as much as possible, which is another major villain for our health. The same goes for all sweets and industrialized treats; I have reduced my intake in general, along with soda.
So no chocolates, sweets, ice creams or popsicles at all. holy day as it was in the past, even for economic reasons, this helps me save, but thinking focused on health, it's what I've been doing for a long time, just avoiding eating too much of anything that has sugar. It may seem simple, but as I said, it is not. It is not easy to resist the desire to eat, to refuse when, in fact, I am dying to eat something sweet. It takes a lot of willpower to refuse, to give in to the sweet delusions that we have available.
Finally, I admit to being a hostage to sugar, but instead of indulging in everything sweet, I try to control myself and save eating or drinking sweet things like that for special occasions or on the weekends. No I can't stop, but I can cut back! 😅
Se têm uma coisa que é considerado um verdadeiro veneno para nosso corpo e a nossa saúde é o açúcar, mas, apesar de estar presente em quase tudo o que consumimos, como o seu antagonista “sal”, é complicado mudar a rotina de sua vida inteira e diminuir ou até abolir o açúcar de suas refeições e lanches. Então o que podemos fazer? Existe alguma fórmula mágica que poderia nos livrar totalmente do açúcar?
Bem, se existe algo que consiga acabar de vez com o uso do açúcar nas coisas que comemos, eu não sei, mas para mim, a minha experiência é simplesmente reduzir, mas parar de vez com o açúcar é impossível para mim. Como um amante de doces e chocolates, não teria como cortá-lo de vez, mas apesar de saber de todos os riscos do seu alto consumo, eu não consigo aplicar um substituto a altura, mesmo pensando em minha saúde e o que pode acontecer de ruim no futuro, estou preso a esse mal adocicado diariamente em minha vida.
Claro que já tentei utilizar os adoçantes, mas não consegui gostar daquilo, porque quando coloco seja em um café ou qualquer outra coisa, fica parecendo que estou tomando um daqueles xaropes amargos que a minha mãe me dava quando era criança e por isso não utilizo de jeito nenhum adoçantes, por mais que talvez sejam menos prejudiciais para a nossa saúde, eu não consegui me adaptar. O açúcar mascavo é uma opção bem legal, às vezes em que consegui comprar e utilizar praticamente não sentia diferença no gosto dos meus alimentos consumidos.
Então por que não incluí-lo na minha rotina diária? Simples: o alto custo para comprar com frequência. Infelizmente sei que saúde não tem preço, mas realmente não consigo manter a compra semanal ou mensal do açúcar mascavo para mim e a minha família. Então entra o último recurso que é o que mais aplico para evitar o consumo alto e descontrolado de açúcar: evitar a qualquer custo! Parece ser bem simples, mas não é, renunciar a comer com frequência coisas doces não é uma tarefa fácil.
Para se ter uma ideia, houve um tempo em que toda vez em que almoçava aqui no meu trabalho, sempre comprava um refrigerante, então os cinco dias de trabalho (segunda a sexta) mais os finais de semana eram regados com refrigerantes para cima e para baixo. Então certo dia comecei a me preocupar com isso e aprendi a almoçar sem tomar nada, apenas um copo de água ao final da refeição, sendo assim, evito ao máximo o refrigerante que é outro grande vilão de nossa saúde. O mesmo vale para todos os doces e guloseimas industrializadas, fiz uma redução geral na mesma onda do refrigerante.
Então nada de chocolates, doces, sorvetes ou picolés todo santo dia como era antigamente, até mesmo por uma questão econômica, isso me ajuda a economizar, mas pensando focado na saúde, é o que costumo fazer há muito tempo, apenas evitar comer muito qualquer coisa que tenha açúcar. Pode parecer simples, mas como dito, não é, não é fácil passar vontade de comer, recusar quando, na verdade, estou maluco para comer um doce, é preciso ter muita força de vontade para negar, se entregar aos delírios adocicados que temos disponíveis.
Por fim, assumo ser um refém do açúcar, mas no lugar de entrar de vez em tudo que é doce, tento me controlar e deixar para comer ou beber coisas doces assim mais em ocasiões especiais ou nos finais de semana. Não consigo parar, mas consigo reduzir! 😅

It is very easy to become fond of consuming sugary substances especially as a kid. I have also used brown sugar a couple of times till it becomes less affordable. Truly we can't fully abstain from sugar, we can only ensure that we consume it in moderation.

Exactly, that's why I'm doing my best not to indulge in them, I've already managed to cut down on my lunch break at work, now I need to cut down more at home in the evening, sometimes we still buy soft drinks and I know I need to cut down on the amount during this period too.

Excesses of things are always the problem, with moderation you can live peacefully.

I totally agree with you, you can't live without experimenting or consuming things, the key to success is to maintain a balance between everything and certainly over-consumption of anything can do us harm.
I can't give up tasty food, whether it's salty or sugary, but of course I try to balance it out and not over-consume everything. I want to live to be 100 haha.

Que bom que está cuidando da saúde, juntando com atividades física acaba melhorando demais a qualidade de vida, ótimo texto, eu particularmente cortei os refrigerantes e com isso não tenho sensação de ficar "estufado"
Eu cortei bastante mas ainda preciso cortar mais kkk, a noite as vezes compro uma coca pra gente aqui, mas sei q preciso tomar menos ainda. Espero cortar de vez algum dia.
