[EN/PT-BR] How I usually behave when faced with internet hate.

The internet helps us in many ways, whether it's with the knowledge we acquire or with getting closer to people who are far away from us. The benefits are countless, but unfortunately we also have some problems, such as what has been happening in recent years, with misinformation, hate attacks and a virtual war that happens a lot on social media. But what if it were you or me? What would you do? Should every attack, defamation and slander be treated as a police matter? Should we report everything that happens?

It's quite complex to think about and it's definitely up to each person to decide whether to go to the police or to let something that happened on the internet go. My way is to let it go, because I don't try to get involved in these problems, in this turn-based fight that happens on the networks. Brazil is going through a crazy political situation because of this, with the politicization of its ideas and what we think is right and wrong at an astronomical level, so sometimes we just share our opinion and receive a barrage of hate and bad words because of it.

So, I really avoid it, although sometimes I get into some online discussion, most of the time I keep to myself and, therefore, even if something like this happens, I prefer to let it go. Recently, on Meta Threads, I shared a memory from Facebook in which I complained about the price of gasoline and here in my city, today, the price per liter is double what I had shared on Facebook. A post to vent, but which surprisingly turned into a political war that I never imagined was possible.

Many people called me some not very elegant words, said bad things and well, I just laughed and let it go, because if you give them fuel, they will keep talking their nonsense. So, even though I was insulted and compared to many bad things, I kept quiet and went on with my life, ignoring everything bad that was said. Many people get into fights and seem to get the adrenaline rush from fighting on the internet and defending their political side or ideas to the death. For my mental integrity, thank God, I'm not like that.

Now, if I felt that an argument on the internet had evolved into something more serious and dangerous, with threats to me or my family, I think I would take legal action against that person, of course, but to do so I would need to know if they live in the same city as me. I think people from other places wouldn't take a bus or a plane to come to my city just to hurt me. So, I would have to be very careful to try to avoid getting into trouble that could be local.

In the end, I believe that would be my attitude. I would ignore many things and just ignore them, but if a threat became serious, I would definitely go after my rights and defend myself against it. But the advice I can give is just to ignore it, be careful when sharing your thoughts on the internet, because even though this is our right, there are people who do not accept differences in ideas and take it in the wrong way, which can harm me and my family, so I don't want to be a magnet to attract that.

A internet nos ajuda em muita coisa, seja com o conhecimento adquirido ou com a aproximação das pessoas que estão longe de nós, os benefícios são inúmeros, mas infelizmente também temos alguns problemas, como o que vem acontecendo nos últimos anos, com desinformações, ataques de ódio e uma guerra virtual que acontece muito nas redes sociais. Mas, e se fosse com você ou comigo? O que você faria? Será que todo ataque, difamação e calúnia deve ser tratado como assunto de polícia? Devemos fazer queixa de tudo o que acontece?

É algo bem complexo pensar nisso e com certeza vai de cada pessoa decidir esse tipo de coias, se vai à polícia ou se vai deixar para lá algo que aconteceu na internet. O meu jeito é mais de deixar para lá, até porque eu mesmo não procuro me envolver nesses problemas, nessa luta por turnos que acontece nas redes. O Brasil vive uma situação política maluca por conta disso, com a politização de suas ideias e do que achamos certo e errado em um nível astronômico, então às vezes apenas compartilhamos nossa opinião e recebemos uma chuva de ódio e palavras de mal gosto por conta disso.

Então, eu realmente evito, apesar de que algumas vezes entro em alguma discussão online, a maioria do tempo fico na minha e, por isso, mesmo que ocorra alguma coisa do tipo, prefiro deixar para lá. Recentemente, nas Threads da Meta, compartilhei uma lembrança do Facebook na qual reclamava do preço da gasolina e aqui na minha cidade, hoje, o valor por litro está o dobro do que havia compartilhado no Facebook. Uma postagem de desabafo, mas que surpreendentemente se tornou uma guerra política que nem imaginei que fosse possível.

Muitas pessoas me chamaram de palavras não muito elegantes, falaram coisas ruins e bem, apenas fiquei rindo e deixando para lá, até porque se você der combustível para eles, eles irão continuar falando suas besteiras. Então, por mais que tenha sido xingado e comparado com muitas coisas ruins, deixei tudo quieto e segui a minha vida, ignorando tudo o que foi falado de ruim. Muita gente compra a briga e parece que sente adrenalina em brigar na internet e defender o seu lado político ou ideias até a morte. Para minha integridade mental, graças a Deus, não sou assim.

Agora, se eu sentisse que uma discussão de internet evoluiu para algo mais serio e perigoso, com ameaças a minha pessoa ou a minha família, acho que tomaria atitudes legais contra essa pessoa, claro, que para isso precisaria saber se ela mora na mesma cidade que eu, acho que pessoas de outros lugares não iriam pegar um ônibus ou avião para vim para a minha cidade apenas para me fazer mal. Então, teria que ter todo esse cuidado em tentar não entrar em confusões que podem ser locais.

Por fim, acredito que seria dessa forma a minha atitude, muitas coisas iria relevar e apenas ignorar, mas se uma ameaça se torna séria, com certeza iria atrás dos meus direitos e da minha defesa contra isso. Só que a dica que posso dar é apenas ignorar, ter cuidado ao compartilhar seus pensamentos na internet, porque por mais que isso seja o nosso direito, tem pessoas que não aceitam a diferença nas ideias e levam isso de uma forma errada, que pode fazer mal a mim e a minha família, então, não quero ser um ímã para atrair isso.
