A friend indeed

My short stay on earth has granted me many experiences, one which includes being in need and not finding help, being in need and finding help and also being a friend indeed. This week's prompt gave me a moment of reflection, have I helped my friends without second thoughts? Have I been selfless? Have I been a safe space in time of trouble?

My answers to the above, yes. From the many I've fufilled I'll tell you just one. It happened two years ago, I was low on cash and writing Jobs were very scarce, I was hoping for a miracle alert, forgotten money or a debtor to magically remember he owed me and pay up, but my account balance wasn't increasing, it was rather decreasing and it made me sad.

I went online to laugh at videos or ridiculous post to take my mind of the situation at hand, and then I got a text from an old-time friend, we didn't talk often but we were still close from our monthly talk sessions. It sounded urgent because I can remember vividly, he said, "Sherah, I need your help."

Leaving my video, I tapped on the messages and let it take me to WhatsApp, I sent a vn asking if he was ok and asking how I could help. Immediately he explained the situation of being stranded on the road and needing the "leanest k" ( smallest amount of thousands in naira) Again, I was very broke and when I saw the message, I knew that I needed to be fast and come to my friends aid.

At that moment, my needs didn't seem to urgent, so I asked for his account number and lended him the money. He expressed so much gratitude, my heart felt fuller with happiness. I was happy he could come to me and find solutions to his problem. I might have not ended the problem totally but I could input in my little way. It made me happy, made my heart full and reminded me to always show up for my friends in time of need.
