Unlucky But Lucky

It was about two weeks ago that I had to go to a bazaar for one of my jobs to help out which I did mention in one of my previous blogs. I used an e-hailing service called Grabcar. It's like Uber and Uber used to be here in Malaysia but they got acquired by Grab. Since then, the rides have been getting more expensive over time due to the lack of competition. Anyways in the previous post, it was more focused on the event and I didn't mention the kind of crazy car ride I had. Well, it wasn't really crazy I would say but it was an unforgettable experience.

Moving on to the story, the drive came and picked me up from my house. Although I'm an introvert, I'm not sure why but I always test to see if the driver will be the type that talks and shares stories. This was a driver that was willing to tell his story. He told me that he used to work at a Japanese company called Toray. He was a driver for the head executives of the company. It was a six out of seven day job but super flexible since he could just chill when the boss was meeting clients etc. He told me that Japanese people loved playing golf so I thought that was interesting. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire because Toray had a mandatory retirement age of 60 if I recall properly. If I'm not mistaken he wanted to stay active and also make money so he decided to try being an e-hailing driver.

After I reached my destination, I had to say goodbye to the driver. I always thank the drivers when I reach my destination. About a few hours into the event, I realized that I didn't have my house keys. I searched my bag and my pockets but they weren't there. I came to the conclusion that I most likely left it in the Grabcar I took earlier in the morning. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to message that driver because once the ride is over the chat is closed. I had to contact the Grab support. The person that came to support my problem was named Natasha. She was super friendly and nice. She even apologized even though I'm the one who accidentally left the house keys and caused this whole issue. Natasha wasn't able to reach out to the driver but she left a message and email to him about my missing house keys.

Later on that day, I got an email that gave me the driver's number to call. I called the driver and he told me he already dropped it off at my house. He kept trying to reach out to my family in my house and my step-mom thought he was crazy. It made me laugh when I heard how he got their attention. My sister went out there and he was telling her that there was this guy (me) that he drove earlier and saying I was from California etc. I wasn't there when this all happened but I could've imagined it since we don't normally have guests at our house.

In the end, I got my house keys back. I was unlucky that I forgot them in driver's car but I was lucky that he was super nice to come by and drop off the keys after he finished driving for Grab.

He is really a good person.ttust me, you don't want to forget your belongings in a car here in Nigeria. I love the fact that he is willing to hustle irrespective of his age. He is really a role model to hustlers like me.

Thanks for sharing

Hey yea i know right. Is it really that bad in Nigera? I always hear people say bad things about that place :(. I'm not sure if i would call that hustling but it's good to stay active instead of sit home and do nothing i guess? I feel like if people just sit home and do nothing they will probably pass away faster no offense or anything. He was paid well in that Japanese company. I never asked him but he said it was good and the company he even provided him all the work stuff like phone clothes etc.

It's rare to find honest drivers, but you did find one who safely gave you the keys of your house.
