Tick Tock Goes The Clock

Tick Tock Tick Tock. That's the sound you hear from a mechanical clock. Tick Tock is also pronounced the same way as TikTok. Today, I will be sharing my thoughts on TikTok, one of the most popular social media platforms at the moment that I find annoying.

Let's first start off with some background of how it all began. It all started from China from a company called ByteDance. They created a social media platform called Douyin which specialized in short video content. You usually learn something or get a laugh out of these short videos. This later got branded as TikTok for the worldwide release.

So why do I find TikTok annoying? I personally don't use TikTok but I'm annoyed at how it has consumed society. I'm not saying everybody but there's definitely a huge amount of people being influenced by TikTok. It's making their time fly by; they will be watching these short videos and 30 mins - 1 hour will pass by in a blink of an eye. Of course this is their life and that's their freedom but I feel TikTok is poisoning the minds of people. It's lowering people's attention span and it shares really dumb things just to get views from people.

In addition to that, there's people trying hard to become TikTok famous due to this popularity in the platform and how things can go viral. If they do go viral, they have a good chance of having a job as an influencer. There are people making tons of money from being an influencer. It's even making people quit/skip college just to try to be famous. I have linked a YouTube video onto thee text that's a year old from Vice news sharing about this. I like one of the lines from the lady in the video. She said "Amy is making more money than her parents wearing a bikini and if Amy can do it why can't I". If this is the way people start thinking, I feel the world will really be doomed.

Maybe I am wrong about all this. Not everything on TikTok is bad though. There are educational stuff, DIYs or good short summary of news and information. However, I think a majority use it for the entertainment which usually involves doing something funny by sometimes doing stupid things. I just can't comprehend this. If you don't find TikTok annoying, I would love to hear your view on this.
