No More

For me, giving up is kind of like letting go. I was thinking throughout the day about what I can give up and it was kind of hard. There's just so many things I think I couldn't give up like food, anime, gaming as an example. It took a while but it finally dawned on me. The thing that I can give up is probably making degen plays in crypto.

What do I mean by degen plays? Well for those that don't know, degen is short for degenerate. In crypto, it's basically trading/investing on big risks and speculation and nothing more. I'm not a heavy degen but there are definitely some plays I've done in the past that I'm not too proud of. The things I consider degen plays are probably buying new meme coins and new NFT projects that don't have much to show and are more leaning towards pure speculation and hype.

One of the degen plays I had in the past was the Saitama token. This one was one of those slow rug tokens. It pumped during bull run and then just slowly went down in price. I was new to crypto that time and if not wrong I put like 500 bucks into this coin. I really believed in what the team was doing. I was also a bit confident in the project because the people on the team actually showed their face which doesn't happen for some crypto projects. Anyways the Saitama team probably made a fortune of this. Fortunately, I was able to sell a bit on the way down but I definitely lost money off this play. Anyways this was a lesson learned.

If degen plays were absent from my life, it would probably save me money. There are cases where I would probably make a lot of money but the risk to reward ratio is probably not worth it. This would also end up helping my mood with not getting sad if the money was lost. Even though it's money I was okay to lose, you know it still hurts sometimes. On top of that, it will probably save my time where I could actually spend on looking at good projects.

To ensure I don't make any degen plays into the future, I will have to keep reminding myself of all the past failures with degen plays. If that doesn't work, I will probably need a friend to just tell me that it's not the play. Ironically, I do have a crypto friend / mentor that has been telling me to buy shib and starl which are meme coins. I have not done it and I probably won't because it makes me think of Saitama.

In conclusion, dont be a degen in crypto. Unless you are super rich and have money to throw it's fine but if you aren't, don't risk it. It's better to invest into projects that actually have utility or usefulness than pure speculation and hype. Just to be transparent, I'm not that big of a degen. I estimate that I only lost a few hundreds of dollars but there's people out there that probably lost thousands or even millions so it's no joke. Where there are winners there are also losers. Don't be the loser that feeds to the winner.
