Melee Madness
Introduction
It was a holiday today because of the first day of the new year in the Islam calendar. I just did some work and chilled playing some splinterlands to find a game with melee mayhem because that's the theme for this week! For this ruleset, melees can attack from any position since normally they are restricted to the first position unless they have an ability like reach, opportunity or sneak.
My Strategy & Tips for Melee Mayhem
Melee Mayhem brings out a few different strategies that are super out of the ordinary. One of the famous strategies is utilizing Jared Scar with it's bloodlust and true aim. It's a unit that does huge DPS as well as gets stronger every time it gets a kill.
I also look at playing water. Water has great melee units especially cards like coastal sentry, diemonshark, deeplurker, kulu mastermind. I think there's an option for Kelya or Possibilus in this ruleset. Personally, I would go Kelya for the speed.
Lastly if life and water are not available, I will look into playing Earth. Earth has some great melee units like Grund with double strike which is something that can be taken advantage of. It even has trample so it can really get rolling with this ruleset. I usually like using Immortalis here with mycelic infantry in the front and some support in the back with the grund as the main DPS.
The Battle
The battle link can be found here. I was battling all day on my scholar to get this ruleset so I can share the battle. Sadly, I'm a bit hard stuck in gold right now but hopefully I will get out soon. The battle was 56 mana cap with back to basics, melee mayhem and fivealive as the rulesets. The two elements banned were fire and death.
Discussing My Lineup
Summoner , Possibilus - Possibilus was a great choice here with melee mayhem and back to basics. The melee mayhem synergizes with the trample from possibilus. That trample can give some extra free attacks.
First Position, Diemonshark - Diemonshark was a great frontline since it has great stats overall and is ideal to have good stats and armor in a back to basics ruleset.
Second Position, Coastal Sentry - I chose Costal Sentry as my second unit. I love the damage and speed this unit has as well as the 3 armor.
Third Position, Arkemis the Bear - This card was also used for the raw stats and to help fill up the manacap.
Fourth Position, Deeplurker - Deeplurker was more focused on DPS since it doesn't have any armor and health. It's main purpose was to hit for 5 damage.
Last Position, Drybone Raider - Drybone Raider was my finisher. I think I made a mistake because I was trying to fill the mana cap. For some reason, I was thinking it still had double strike but it didn't. I still liked it though because it can help mix in the range damage and the range could help remove any armor before hitting with an attack.
Analysis of The Battle
My opponent opted for Grandmaster Rathe which I feel isn't that great of a choice. With melee mayhem as the ruleset, I feel people wouldn't play magic as much so using rathe I felt was a mistake. I did mention Jared Scar is good with melee mayhem but not in back to basics. Not having the true aim is huge and if you watched the battle, you can see the Jared Scar missed all their attacks. I feel my trample came in clutch as well and the bonus health from possibilus just made my team tankier.
