Be A Maverick

No matter where you are in the world, there's always some sort of societal pressure. It's something that is experienced in life. That's why today I want to make the message clear "Be A Maverick".

Now I know what you might think. The word Maverick sounds familiar. It's actually the name of the main character from Top Gun: Maverick or you may know it from a basketball team called the Dallas Mavericks. According to Oxford dictionary, maverick means an unorthodox or independent-minded person.

There's always something that influences us. This may be friends, family, social media, etc. There's always something out there that is trying to push us to something that we may not want to do. Sometimes we have to do it but in most cases we really don't at least provided the person is 18 and over or whatever age is considered an adult in the country they live in. If not well they have to listen to their parents until they are 18.

Let me share some examples of my societal pressures. Every time I go to my grandparents place, my grandpa will always ask me where's my girlfriend. He tells me if you like a girl just go chase her, go disturb her. Quickly get married and get a baby for the year of the dragon which is already happening in a month so there's no way it's going to happen. I'm someone that came from divorced parents and I've seen a lot of divorced people in my life. Through this experience, I'm not too hasty to get married. I think it takes time and eventually the right person will show up.

Then I want to share one of the typical societal pressures that probably every Chinese child faces. It's the one where we need some sort of successful career and then to buy a house etc. A part of it is for the parents being able to have that pride in raising such an amazing child that is working for Google or becoming a successful doctor/engineer etc. Then there's always a lot of chit-chat with the Asian moms and one of the topics is always talking about the children. Then I feel that this gets passed down to the child. I remember when I was growing up my mom was like oh I heard from XXXX parent XXXX is doing this and that. Then my mom tries to like push me to do those things as well. Some of the things I did try but I didn't really like them but there wasn't really much of a choice since I wasn't an adult yet.

Not too long ago though, my mom and stepdad did ask me when I was planning on buying a house and I couldn't really give her a deadline yet because I didn't have a set date for it. I do eventually want to buy a house in the future but right now I just want to focus on working and trying to build my portfolio and make it big in crypto.

Surprisingly enough, Crypto is still something that is in the minority. There's a lot of people that fear it because most of the news that's shared for it is mostly negative like fraud and scams. So in a way, there's some societal pressure to stay away from Crypto at least from the majority. I'm still here though because I truly believe in the decentralization that crypto brings to the world and it protects our money from the government that just keeps printing money when they want to.

There you have it some examples of some of my pressures. In the past, I would have bended to the pressure but I feel now I am a maverick. I will make my own decision based on my values and thoughts. I'm ok if it's against the majority. As long as to me, it's the right thing and by right I mean it's not hurting anybody, or anything negative towards others etc.
