Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Equalizer. In this ruleset, all cards will have the same base health of the highest health card on either team. I will be sharing some tips for this ruleset as well as sharing a battle featuring this ruleset.

My Strategy For Equalizer Ruleset

In Equalizer ruleset, I think the most important strategy is to play as many creatures as you can. By doing this, you are taking advantage of the ruleset because all cards will have the same base health. Having more monsters will give you an advantage because the opponent will have to do more damage. For example, 3 cards with 4 health = 12 health total vs 6 cards with 4 health = 24 health total. The higher chance winning team would most likely be the team with 6 cards and 24 health as you will not only get off more dps cause more cards that can attack but also more health to tank damage.

Another tip to look at is finding cards that have a low base health. Usually these cards have strong abilities or high damage which are offset by low health but since this ruleset makes everyone have the same health it will clear this weakness. Some good examples of strong cards with low base health are Exploding Rats, Djinn Inferni, Weirding Warrior, all the 0 mana fiends and many more.

As for choosing a summoner, I don't feel there's a certain summoner that has a better advantage than others in this ruleset. Any summoner can be played; it just needs to synergize with the lineup. I feel the choice of creatures and the amount of creatures played is the bigger determinant for victory.

The Battle

I played this battle on my account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in Modern Diamond League. The ruleset for this battle was Equalizer, Fog of War and Melee Mayhem. It was a 51 mana cap battle with only fire and dragon element available.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Quix The Devious - I chose Quix for the speed debuff and decreasing the range damage. You can never go wrong with debuffing speed unless it's a reverse speed ruleset.

First Position, Chaos Agent - I chose Chaos Agent to be my main tank. This is a super good card in Equalizer since it's base health is not that great. It has good abilities of phase, dodge and backfire which make it a solid tank. 25% to dodge with the dodge ability, it has chance to to dodge magic with the phase ability and then if it dodges it does backfire damage to the opponent.

Second Position, Void Dragon - I chose Void Dragon to be my secondary tank. It has good speed and has flying which could help make the opponent miss. It has void to reduce magic damage. It was a pretty solid secondary tank choice.

Third Position, Arkemis The Bear - The main purpose of this card was to give armor to the whole team with protect. This could basically stop one melee/range attack from the opponent. It's also Melee Mayhem so this card can actually attack from this third position. It's super good because it can also halve the opponent's attack.

Fourth Position, Chaos Dragon - The purpose of this card was to do Damage. It's a super solid DPS Card at 14 mana. It can do 4 magic damage and 2 splash damage to the surrounding enemies. It also has a nice debuff of blind which can make the opponent miss.

Fifth Position, Dr Blight - The main purpose for Dr Blight was to add affliction for any healing and to be a solid DPS at 4 mana. Dr Blight is probably the best 4 mana card in the game. The scavenge makes it kind of like a scaling card. Think of it like a late game monster with all the extra health it can gain from scavenge.

Fifth Position, Supply Runner - Supply Runner was mainly for the swiftness so I can attack first. It also added a nice buff of one health to my whole team with strengthen.

Analysis of The Battle

You can see that the opponent took my advice of playing cards with low base health such as Dumacke Orc, Exploding Rats and Countess Sinash. It seems like my opponent thought I would play more melee creatures because of melee mayhem ruleset but I didn't. I think this is what made his strategy backfire which gave me the advantage. I had more damage than the opponent and faster speed which let me win the game. The game wasn't really that close at all.

Do I Like Equalizer Ruleset?

Yes, I love the Equalizer Ruleset. I think it gives chance to play strong OP low base health cards. Usually I tend to avoid playing these cards because they are very weak and can die easily to opportunity or cards like Chaos Dragon with blast. This ruleset let's us play these strong cards without having to worry about them dying instantly. I find this ruleset fun to play as well.
