Just a Quick Lunch… That Turned Into a Comedy Show

Just a Quick Lunch… That Turned Into a Comedy Show_20250715_171418_0000.png

Hello Hivemates! It’s me again, Seth — and yep, I’m back to sprinkle some good vibes on your feed.

So let me tell you about one random weekday that turned into an unexpected mix of food coma, fashion hunting, and a mild panic attack (you’ll see why later).

It started like this.

Our class was scheduled at 2:00PM, which meant we had the whole morning and early afternoon to chill. And by “chill,” I mean — get food. Because who can focus in class with a grumbling stomach?

We decided to head to SM Butuan, our go-to escape from campus stress and cafeteria food. The plan? Look around, grab lunch, go back to school. Simple, right?

Wrong. 😅

First stop: Garments Apparel.

One of my friends said he “just wanted to window shop,” which, in our language, really means we’re all going to end up trying on shirts and taking mirror selfies like it’s a fashion show. And that’s exactly what happened.

We were flipping through racks, judging colors, and trying to convince each other that “yes bro, this color suits you,” when in reality, we just didn’t want to admit it looked kinda questionable.

Thirty minutes flew by and nobody bought anything. Not even socks. But you know what we did gain? Hunger. Extreme, growling, stomach-wants-to-quit-life kind of hunger.

So we marched our way to the 3rd floor of SM, straight to our favorite lunch spot: Ribshack.

Now, if you’ve never been to Ribshack, you're missing out. For only ₱129 (around $2.27), you get a tasty meal with unli rice. Yes, unlimited rice — the true weakness of every Filipino.

We ordered our food and boom — the chika session began.

It started with “What if our professor doesn’t show up?” and somehow turned into “What would we name our future kids?” followed by uncontrollable laughter over nothing — you know, classic student behavior.

One of us even dared to see who could eat the most cups of rice, and let me just say, no one won that battle. We were full, loud, and practically melting into our seats from all the food and laughter.

Then suddenly — panic.

One of us looked at the time and shouted, “GUYS! CLASS!!!”

It was 1:55PM.

But before we could even think of rushing back, someone pointed to the ice cream stall nearby and said, “Let's have an ice cream just for refresh.” And for some reason… we all agreed. Priorities, right?

We each grabbed a cone like it was our last day of summer — walking fast, licking faster, trying not to let it melt all over our hands. Imagine a group of students power-walking through the mall while holding ice cream like sacred treasure. That was us.

The energy in that moment shifted faster than a plot twist in a teleserye. We scrambled. Grabbing bags, wiping our hands, running down the escalator while half-laughing, half-regretting that third serving of rice.

We thought we’d be late for sure, but plot twist: our professor arrived late too — 10 minutes late.

So we strolled into the classroom like nothing happened, cool and calm on the outside, but internally still burping ribs and garlic rice.

Moral of the story?

Never underestimate a “quick lunch.” Especially not with unli rice and good company.

Thanks for reading, Hive fam. Sometimes, it's not the big moments, but these silly little stories that make college life unforgettable.

Until next time — stay hungry, stay funny, and maybe check the time while eating. 😅🍚
