Travel to Guadeloupe part 7 final (En/Fr)

I present the last leg of my January trip to Guadeloupe.
Don't miss the street art photos!
We regretfully left the island of Les Saintes, where we couldn't do the water sports we'd planned because the sea was too rough.
We didn't get to see the carnival on this island either, as it was taking place the following week, but we did get to attend the rehearsals of a percussion group, known as PO groups, accompanied by trombophones (wind instruments made from conch shells).
They took place in the evenings close to our house.

We picked up our car in good condition in Trois-Rivières, where parking cost €3 a day, and headed for Sainte Anne.

On the way, we stopped off at a kassaverie.
Kassav are cassava pancakes, and we were able to witness the manufacturing process: the tubers have to be soaked in water after being peeled, otherwise they are toxic. They are then grated, washed, drained and cooked into patties.
The patties can be plain or filled with fish or coconut, and are very tasty provided you have a sauce, as they're a little dry.

We chose Sainte Anne as our last stopover because it's close to the airport and the capital, Pointe à Pitre, and it's a town with a reputation for tourism.
And indeed, Club Méditerranée has a vacation village there, so we went to see the famous Caravelle beach, which was actually quite disappointing - it's very crowded, and we'd seen much nicer beaches.
But if you like jet skiing, windsurfing or catamaran sailing, it's probably a good place to go.
In short, we didn't regret spending time elsewhere on the island, but we did meet some retired people who come here every year at this time to spend 3 months, renting an apartment for 600€ a month, and they were very happy.

One of the island's great specialties is coconut ice cream, made by hand in an original device.
It's a wooden barrel filled with crushed ice and in the center there's a container containing the mixture of condensed milk and coconut, with a propeller that turns powered by a motor, but sometimes it's done by hand or with a stationary bicycle.
The photo shows an elaborate device.

In Pointe à Pitre, we parked on the harbor.
People come to buy fish directly from the boat, but you can also buy them gutted from the stalls right next door.
The pelicans are very interested in this abundance of fish!

Pointe à Pitre is a great place to shop for fabrics, clothes or spices, as it's very lively.

A must-see if you like street art is the Centre des Arts et de la Culture, although there are plenty of these all over town.
It's a building whose renovation was never completed and which has been peacefully occupied by a group of artists for some years now.
I'm showing you a few works with women as their central theme, but there are many other themes represented.
I think it's a shame that a place like this isn't given a little more help by the municipality, there's no running water and the only toilets available are dry ones.

It was our last day in Guadeloupe.
We returned the car at the airport without any problems, and I'd like to thank Kalina'Go for their impeccable service.

In another post I'll talk about some of the spices I brought back to keep a bit of Guadeloupe on my dish and also the recipe for Ti'Punch.

The photos were taken by my wife and myself.
