Unknown Vintage Silver Round - 1984 Morgan Silver Trade Unit
Collection Highlights -
Hoping @silverd510 or @silversaver888 or someone else into vintage can shed some light. Having some of these that have very little to identify them as frustrating, and even in today's digital world there isn't always information.
This round is from an unknown mint, and no matter how much investigation I do I can't seem to figure anything out. The front is a very nice copy of the Morgan dollar design copying not only design of the head but also that of the Latin script, the Stars, and the date. Well not an identical copy, it certainly has a lot of resemblance and is very clear in represents. I looked in the details but I could not find a mint mark or any other identifying marks that would let me know who meant to this.
Obverse
Like I said before, this is a almost identical copy of the Morgan Dollar although when comparing them you can clearly tell there are enough differences as to not be confused. I think this is a very good representation of the Morgan head, and clearly calls out Liberty and headband but has enough design differences to let you know. I believe it has a different number of stars on the right versus the left and the Morgan and believe it is 6 and 7 and that is flipped from the Morgan that has seven heads six. Overall I guess the design is fine since it's been in a Morgan it cuz I love hate for me.
Reverse
The reverse doesn't have much to offer since it is a generic silver trade unit with a scale. This scale is on the fancier end of the scales with more fine details within the scale. I tried to focus on the top of the scale symbols, and the s in the middle before all the columns with the lines. I couldn't find a mint mark or a reference and you were here, I feel like this is a very standard silver trade unit reverse and doesn't do much for identification
Unknown Mint also made Peace Dollar Designs
I did try searching the reverse on Google image search to see if I could find other coins minted with the same trade unit that had otherwise been identified. While I didn't find any in my searching, I did find that this identical scale was used on a silver trade unit with a peace teller design on the front that was dated. It appears whoever minted these was doing their best to Mint trade units that resembled the old dollars. Not sure if they ran into any legal trouble and if that's the reason why they stopped or didn't put their mint on, but I couldn't find any way to identify the source

There were several mints that did Morgan & Peace dollar trade units. I won’t buy either because I collect the coins and the knock offs bother me. Saver has some maybe she will know.
i think i got one of these stuck in with my morgans
Tough job, can't help you here.
