Private Minted Silver Series - Farmers Savings Bank West union & Clermont.

Collection Highlights -

I decided to change it up a little bit and shift away from some of the vintage stuff for a little while and instead look at some of the unique and interesting rounds that I have found that appear to be privately minted grounds that were made for businesses to give to their employees at some point.

This is for the Farmers savings Bank of West Union and Claremont Iowa. I couldn't find any other copies of this round out there that gave me any sort of information of mintage or whom it did it for them. The only information that I could find about the bank was that think it bought in 2001 by Kerndt Bank Services, which is a small regional growing Bank in Iowa.

I would love to know why this round was minted and why they chose to do 80 year commemorative silver coin. Either way I highly doubt I'll ever find out much more about this and it'll likely just sit as an anonymous private limited vintage round from the early nineties in my stock

Obverse

I really like this side of the round. It has a great call back to the bank building that sits on the street corner that must have been built a long time ago. It has that classic break downtown building look that so many of the small towns in the midwest had. It almost reminds me of those prospector rounds in the images of the downtown areas that they use for a backdrop. I think the detail in the building is great and it's impressive they were able to get so much on such a small round while at the same time not making it overly busy.

Reverse

The reverse is a little more marketing oriented than it is designated in my mind. The shaking of hands to symbolize trust and partnership with the world community, bringing out the name again and stamping the ever present member FDIC he's probably all included to and still trust to those who get the silver round. I'm wondering if these were meant to do some sort of anniversary, award, recognition or other ceremony that they put on for employees maybe got one or maybe just certain employees.

Some of these privately minted grounds have some great artwork like the obverse of this round, and it's really impressive to see the creativity and the quality that can be produced if you have a desire to meet one of these.

If anyone had seen one of these before, or knows anything more about it I would love to have some resources to read, other than just starting up about the history of Bank I don't know how to find any more information about why these rounds were minted, or who minted them

Thanks - these privately minted stuff is all very unique. Almost like some of those city and bus tokens that I see in coin shops. Hard to find more than one of them. !PIZZA

My guess is there can't be many of them, but then again, the minimum order for a run and to make the dies has to be in the hundreds - right? !PIZZA

No, I have not seen that one yet. That building may be iconic! It must have been standing since 1913!

I love a lot of those older down town buildings. They are both still standing, and have that look of small town down town. !PIZZA

I would tend to consider it a Silver Medal, rather than a Silver Coin or Round...

Its odd, I use the term coin loosely. There are a lot of challenge coins and other stuff like that. I can see it being a coin, a token, a medal, pretty much anything. !PIZZA

It doesn't strike me as being a Coin or a Round, but a Token wouldn't be out of line...
