Collection Highlights -

I'm back with another Morgan dollar from my inherited collection on my mother's side. This Morgan dollar is the same as the previous Morgan Dollar I showed, it is a 1921 d. Not surprising since there were 21.6 million of these minted and it being the last year minted I think a lot of them were held on to by people thinking they might be worth something.

This one again shows strange toning, clearly it was stored with something that caused this. Probably some sort of paper or leather pouch that over time caused the coin to look like this.

I like the Morgan dollar size, and the fact that it's 90% silver. I think it would be much harder to spend these, or any coin with real silver in it at the store than it is just wipe my credit card. There is an association and a animalistic feeling when you hold precious metals in your hand, and you don't want to let them go. Breaking that Bond I think has helped the country get into the debt situation we're currently in

Obverse - Au-53-AU-55

Going through the photo grade app I think the front of this coin would grade somewhere in the au53 to the au 55 range. I think the obverse is probably an au53 slightly lower but I'm not an expert and sometimes when I looked at it I felt like it could get a 55 potentially. When you get up into this grade it gets much harder to pick out the details needed for each grade but you really start to notice the level of details in the engraving that are messed in the lower grades

Reverse Au-53-AU-55

I think the reverse might be slightly better than the adverse. It falls into the same range for me but I am starting to lean towards an au 55 up to two. Maybe it's because the reverse is not toned and I'm able to see the details better. I really think the die breaks are quite interesting. If you look at the States of America you will see that almost all of the letters are connected along the top from a diet break. This leads me to believe that this one was minted towards the end of the run for that die as I believe those appear from usage and continuous striking of coins

I don't know much about the VAM world of morgan's, but I know that there's a ton of attributions that people look for. They can go as far as identifying the guys used, certain attributes of things being doubled, or filled in, or imperfections that were repeated over and over again. Maybe someday I can spend the time to learn all about VAM's.

Something harsh was on the face of that coin to cause that. It’s unfortunate because it’s in nice condition. Graders would call it environmental damage and send it back.

Yeah, not sure what got on there. Clearly caused a bunch or dirt or goo to collect and change color. It is a nice grade for sure, but where ever they stored it or handle it with was bad. !LUV

Nice, the bad the obverse isn't quite as good as the reverse. But I love all Morgan dollars!
