The treasure behind The Fear
Not long ago I found myself in a crossroads when I lost my religious worldview.
I chose to rely on the human new culture paradigm: Science. As such, I searched for the promises offered and the steps to take regarding happiness.
If you have read my previous reflections, I tried to reach an unhuman level to reach it in the framework of purity of soul, this is, by rejecting sin in every form. The thing is, repressing is not the true way to reach change, but rather a deep understanding of things. A new tendency to study Eastern spiritual exercises seems to suggest this.
If you punish someone for stealing, that will put an obstacle in his mind when a new opportunity to do it arrives. But if you leave this person to steal as much as possible at some point he will come to terms with the consequences it creates for himself. The suffering he causes. Sinning with mindfulness eventually leads to what Leo Gura calls “Karma burn”. This is, you face your excesses by doing them and witnessing the consequences in yourself and others. As you interiorize experience, something inside of you balances.
This might be fun to consider when you need to leave sugar or excess fast food. Not so much with addictions, violence, or rage. The resistance coming from guilt creates furthermore anxiety and self-hate, which increases the need of reaching to excesses even more. This is also hard for those around the person who suffers from an imbalance. Are you willing to be punched in the face by someone trying to leave rage issues behind, to serve as an experience?
Are you willing to stand there and watch, while someone you love puts a needle in his arm knowing the terrible amount of pain addiction caused to him, or his entire family and even society?
Food for thought.
I have healed many anxieties by facing them. Exposing myself to a dread so deep and dense that hurt physically, but at the same time absorbing the reality. That I could survive these experiences. Eventually, with practice, and exposing, my body left the fear behind, and so my mind opened to more, and more experiences.
it had become a habit. I have now pondered that all the obstacles in my life are made of fear. Have you noticed? When you are scared of anything, your mind circles around or bluntly evades thinking about it, through denial or directly making the blind sight.
There’s no other way to become a genius in anything but through fear. Because being a genius means creating something beyond the normal means of the mind. Why is Einstein a genius? Because he challenged the scientific beliefs of the time.
How was even Jesus Christ a revolutionary? Because he challenged the very base of orthodox religion. “You have heard it was said: Eye for an eye, teeth for teeth” But I say to you, love your enemies…” (Matthew 5:43-44)
The very core of human cognitive development is to challenge the old world inside of us. And that can only be done by experience presently how you perceive it, how you act, and the very consequences of being who you are. Every part of what is in our way to become that genius is afraid to die. That’s why fear, anger, and hate are clues to the next step to take to become the best we can be.
For many is traffic. Others are roaches. For many more are taxes. But all of us share a common fear: Death. Imagine losing the fear of death. It’s not like that will make us all suicidal but, it might clear the way for us to create good despite the consequences!
Yesterday, I was scared of people and criticism. That was a real problem because I wanted to be a psychologist. How do you help anyone, if you are scared of them?
Yesterday, I was scared of roaches. So every chance I got, I crushed them. Now, I am no longer scared of them because I repeatedly tried over and over to expose myself to them. Now, I can take them between my hands and pull them close to the window, where they might be free and safe.
There are so many fears waiting for me to take on them. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll have enough time, living, to see where this will take me but I guess that's another fear I have to learn from too!

I'm not religious, however I know enough about various religions to know that's ok. People can have their own beliefs of course, and for me, I believe I'm responsible for my actions, the way I think and what happens in my life; I impact those things. Sure, chance plays a hand at times, other forces, but I'm not one to shift blame onto an imaginary friend I face my life and its situations, have the thoughts and take the actions that will improve it or move it closer to what I want it to be. Sort of like your facing fears paradigm I guess.
You are more right than you think. I have achieved amazing results now that I don't blame imaginary friends or enemies. And moreover I have realized you can read the very same sacred book and yet get a diferent preception from everyone else who also read it. You can become self destructive or you can become loving. It all depends on us!
That's right perception. Many things (good and bad) have happened because of a person's perception of the words collected together in a book, I don't just mean terrorism either, and I feel it will continue to happen. Of course, human being's propensity for greed is also to blame.
Facing our fears can be a good catalyst for growth in life, there's this aspect of moving into a greater and expansive view that I enjoy everytime I faced my fear and move through it. Looking back, it sometimes seemed that most of the fears are quite exaggerated on tinted with our own preconceived ideas. Definitely a lot to explore about fear :)
Yeah. It's a quest worth diving into. Or a sidequest? Haha with every fear down, more new things unlock. It's almost like a game. It's exciting to wonder about all the posibilities. That's why I am persuing enlightment right now. Feeling being one with all will surely help with all fears!
I see it more like a side quest lol. The analogy of a game really makes it more exciting and fun. Progress can be measured to see how far we've come on this fear journey. I guess the biggest boss fight would be the fear of Death? Enlightenment is definitely a well rewarding and worthwhile path :)
