Why Do We Church Shame?

Because quite recently it seems as though your attendance in church makes you more Christian than your peers.
I stay in a country where Christians are pompous.

There I said it.

The majority of them think their religion is the one and only way and any other way is not leading to salvation and this mindset is passed down to younger Christians.
I would claim I'm a Christian, but I don't think my religion is superior to others (especially with the amount of scandals and corruption and evil done under the umbrella of it)
Regardless most Christians are blindsided and obstinate in this belief.

That alone is tiresome, yet the most annoying part of at least the part that gets to me the most is the belief that you're not a Christian (or you're a backsliding one) if you don't go to church.
That is a very disturbing mindset that cause prejudice of some Christians against another!
Surely it's not everyone that comes outloud and says it plainly, yet it is the majority of them that think that way, you'll see it in their eyes, their body language and other things when they see you or hear about someone else in their homes on a Sunday morning.

Majority of the Christian Parents think this way and then it's passed down to their kids.
Now don't get me wrong, going to church is beautiful and essential in being a Christian.

Yet going to church every Sunday!...

Regardless of your health and mindset at the time is a propaganda that I'll miss.
Cause if you're extremely tired, you can stay at home.
If you are ill, it is advised you stay at home!

Funny how what started this rant is because I came down ill on Sunday and I practically had to beg my mom to allow me to miss church.
I had to beg her to allow me to stay in bed, she was convinced that a feverish, weak, troubled by headache would be able to stay four hours (cause she stayed four hours in church) in a building that's as loud and rowdy as a house of worship!!

After the begging and her grumblings about how we're growing unreligious, she left and I managed to summon some strength to do chores (that she left for me)
Later on in the day after moving around a bit, I started getting better—at least better enough to move around and use my phone cause I have a lot of meetings on Sunday.
She walked in on me and began accusing me how I was forming sick to avoid going for church.

I was shocked and to be honest too ill to reply. At that moment I just wondered, is the church really all that?
It's a necessary thing but is that what determines a Christian?
Isn't God everywhere? So why do we in our minds confine him to the church on Sunday morning?
After that the small stamina I had vanished again and I slept off.
Waking up now after taking my drugs I can say I'm a bit better but I'm all the more confused and vexed by this mindset.
I didn't write this to shade my mom of course it was just to pose a question that anyone can answer.

Why do we church shame ourselves?

Well said, going to church should be about connecting with God, not about proving ur faith to others. Loved this rant—it really questions outdated mindsets.

I feel you. It just shake my head when others say you are not a Christian if you don't go to church every Sunday. It's a crazy belief, I dare say. I'm sorry that your Mom thinks that way. Just extend your patience and understanding hehe.

I hope you're better now?
