The Two Gods
"I don't think you fully understand the gravity of what you have done." He said to Reo, face serious as he slowly completed a full vertical circle in the air that had no gravity. Reo had looked at him through his whole revolution and I believed it a great accomplishment he did not at least chuckle at it.
"You just ended a world, and affected at least 3 others." He said again sternly.
"It's just a world, a lifeless and dull one at that. You can make another." Reo explained again to Nue, his elder brother
"It's lifeless because it didn't live long enough for there to be life. Do you know why it didn't live long enough?" He asked Reo rhetorically.
"Because you killed it!!!" He screamed, so loudly, his sound waves pushed me away from his sight.
Reo finally stopped sliding backwards a few 100 meters away from him.
He couldn't believe he got so mad, for a baby planet at that. One he could easily remake.
"Maybe it's not about the ease of the making process." He heard a familiar voice speak into his mind.
He turned to look in the distance at me, the elder tree, the original creator of all life forms.
"I see no reason for him to be that mad, he had just made the world, there was nothing of major significance lost. It had no life." I explained to the tree, hoping at least she would side with me in moral support.
"It's not about 'what had been'. It's about 'what could've been'" I said simply.
"That makes no sense!" He shouted, suddenly annoyed at the fact no one saw his point of view nor could he understand theirs.
"It's simply because you're not the one who creates, you're the one who destroys."
"Then make me one who creates." He asked.
"I couldn't.. I shouldn't... But what if..." I began in confusion, suddenly amused by the thought, I laughed.
"You've amused me, Reo. I created both you and your brother as gods to rule this land.
One as a creator and one as a destroyer. Never did it occur to me to make one both." I said, still laughing.
"So you'll do it?" I asked in anticipation and excitement.
"I'll do it, the question is would you do it?" The tree asked back.
"This decision would affect you way more than you think. What you're asking is a complete breakdown and remodeling of what you are. When we're done, you may not be Reo again." I explained to him clearly.
"What do you mean? Do you mean I'll die?" He asked, fear in his voice.
"Yes you would. Although what matters is what would come after that death. How would you emerge? It's your rebirth that matters." I explained to him.
He seemed hesitant, yet the sound of a distant blast that accompanied the creation of a new world by his brother Nue seemed to have steeled his resolve.
"I'll do it." He said, taking my leaves and ingesting it so he could be swallowed whole.
When he came back out, I looked in wonder and curiosity at the new being that stood before me.
There were no obvious physical changes, so maybe it was something philosophical.
"Go on... Do something." I urged him slightly.
He seemed groggy and disoriented, but stopped to think.
Suddenly his hands began to glow, and a soft patch on the floor began to mould.
He had created a chair. I was ecstatic.
He could create, yet could he still destroy?.
The answer came soon enough when his brother came back and saw him, he alone noticed the changes in him at first glance.
"Who are you?" Reo asked him slowly.
"What have you done?" His brother shouted in outrage.
For some reason that shout angered Reo, and then his hands with its glow for creation turned to a deep black for destruction.
An evil black.
The destruction that ensued was far more powerful than anything he had ever done, not one , not two but four world's were gone in that brief meeting of the brothers.
Then and there, Nue realized he was no match for his brother and he left my world to create and live in one of his.
Reo on the other hand had fully awakened his true powers and left my world, to create world's of his own and destroy them as he saw fit.
I was left alone, fueled by my own excitement of what my creations had done and what they would do.
"Why did you do it?" The little girl asked me, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Reo came to our world to battle Nue, he destroyed our world with monsters and demons and Nue, our god was killed." She said again, the tears now falling.
"I saw." I replied weakly. "As I created both of them, particularly as I created Reo twice, I can see and feel what they did."
"Don't you have any regrets? Even now as he's coming to destroy your world? Even now when you're going to die?." She asked.
"Regret?" I asked her back, laughing.
"As a god who creates I have no regret, only filled with curiosity, and I have to say that my curiosity has been satisfied to an extent."
"I do on the other hand understand that the full gravity of what I had created is coming back to hit me, although I'm ready to face that challenge."
"Then for your last question." I regarded the confused girl.
"Die? We gods don't die. We only evolve, there's always rebirth." I said to her as the doorway opened.
"Run now little human. You above all have been given a great purpose, your creator Nue would be so proud." I said to her as she was slowly dragged by my creations to the doorway that'll take her to her world.
"I still don't understand." She said, before she was thrown out.
Immediately she left, I felt the cold dark air of destruction that had entered my atmosphere.
"You look old, elder Tree." Reo said, mockingly prostrating.
"Now I can see why other beings ran at the sight of you. You look ghastly in all hideousness." I remarked on his full appearance.
"I'll allow your quips today, the dying words of an old unneeded god."
"There's something you've forgotten, you youngling." I said laughing.
"For gods, there is no death, only rebirth."
Suddenly he cracked free, Nue came out from my trunk, reborn better and stronger , yet he wasn't groggy or disorientated.
He knew exactly what to do, the former god of creation now has to destroy his brother.

Oh my. How wonderfully deep you manage to take us in such a short story.
This is world building on a truly fantastic level - of course, I'm a sucker for Yggdrasil stories.
Is this a one and done, or are you intending to use it as a seed for a larger telling?
It might be a seed.
Hoping to enter Amazon KDP this year, so I'll soon restart my hand in series and making larger works.
Although, one would need the right kind of mindset to stitch gears and create longer stories with more indepth plot and characters.
Would be visiting scholar and scribes community a lot it seems...
Wow, what a wild ride! This story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I have to say, Reo really messed up by destroying that world. I guess it all worked out in the end since he became a god of both creation and destruction. Who knew that was even possible?
And Elder Tree, really had me going there for a minute. I thought he was going to say no to Reo's request to become a creator. He just couldn't resist the opportunity to create something new and exciting.
As for that little girl, she really got caught up in the middle of all this, didn't she? I have to say, Elder Tree'S response to her question about regret was pretty hilarious... it made me think that when you're a god, you don't have time for regrets.
And Reo's witty remark about Elder Tree's appearance was pretty funny. Sha let him watch out, because now that Nue is back and better than ever, he might have some competition in the destruction department.
@seki1, this was a really entertaining and thought-provoking story. I can't wait to see what kind of worlds Reo and Nue create (and destroy) next...that is if you are planning to continue though.
Thanks for your exciting comment @iskawrites 😂😂
I'm not sure about a next part yet...
This is so sophisticated. You deal with philosophical questions that are the basis of many religious systems. The balance between destruction and creation...do we need that for the order of the universe to be maintained? If the balance is disturbed, what happens? In this case, nothing good. It seems in the end, the struggle for control of the universe will continue, as gods cannot die. Nue will destroy his brother, who will be reborn? And seek to destroy Nue?
The story offers amazing opportunities for speculation and reflection. It was a bit difficult to follow the personalities and sort them out. However, you do provide a road map within the story.
Great, original, worthy writing. Thank you for sharing this with us, @seki1
Thank you ❤️🔥

This story is amazing. I read it 2 1/2 times to keep track of the gods. Kind of a cold and indifferent universe. Feels that way sometimes, doesn't it?
Indeed it does...

This was a really interesting read, the whole time I pictured the tree from Ocarina of Time hehe
Destruction and creation seem like natural ebb and flow if you get far enough away I suppose. A nice full circle thinker here 😄
