The Hive Missionary Journey π₯β¨
It's been quite long since I've posted in here. Been scrolling through communities on hive, trying to expand my reach and horizons but today I've decided to come back to my home soil.
A place where I can switch from pidgin to English and not have to go through the trouble of translating for the western folksπ
Actually dem suppose dey teach pidgin for their schools oooh. How we go dey learn English and spanish but Dem no dey learn pidgin, e no jig nau?!ππ
True words but that's not what this post is about (maybe I'll write a post about that later π)
This is a post written in response to the @hive-naija weekly post.
You must have told someone about Hive at some point, or maybe you were found checking your own Hive wallet and were asked about it. Tell us about your experience(s) preaching Hive, how it isn't a get-rich-quick scheme, onboarding, and the lessons you've learned so far.
The Hive Gospel
I'm sure every successful hiver on the community right now would scream and testify that hive has been a wondrous thing in their lives.
There are those who were down in the dumps where they met hive.
The writers who were looking for a platform to start from.
The students who were stuck at home and had no means to make money but had enough data to scroll through TikTok and Instagram and the likes.
This was my situation before I met @bhoa who onboarded me and since then hive has been a miraculous social media outlet to me both in polishing my writing skills and earning money to help get by this tough country.
Normally it's a no brainer that I'll try and share this lovely miracle of mine to other people and try and bring them into the light of web3, yet preaching to them is always filled with it's set of worries, issues and stress.
When I think of my past troubles with hive onboarding, my mind go through the talks and discussions I've had with different kind of people.
I remember the first person who asked me about hive.
My account worth had just crossed a $100 and he was interested in how I got such a sum.
$100? Who no go dey interested? π
He listened to everything I said and I helped him create an account.
Thus the problem began...
- Socializing
I began begging this boy to write his intro post and comment on other people's posts. That he needs to become active so he can earn. > Imagine say I dey beg person weh wan get money
After he gives an excuse here and another excuse there, I'll leave him for another 2 days and beg him again.
This went on for quite some time till we stopped talking altogether.
An account opened, yet nothing done on it.
This was my first failure in onboarding and God was I pained.
The rest who came after him were a bit better but still not as desirable as I want them too.
- The Oppression as a newbie.
This is another issue that both the onboarder and the onboarded has to tackle together.
Watching accounts earn high payouts of over 7-8 dollars and theirs barely passing 50 cents can be depressing. It still hurts me sometimes when I spend time ad energy on a post and it falls flat π
Appreciator dey do background work, money weh ihn suppose vote for some of my posts they go to othersπ
Encouraging a new hivean to write and socialize without them getting the money they have already fantasized in their head is hard, hence with the envy and pain in their heart, some just conclude it's not worth it.
- Consistency
Na person weh no dey behind wheel dey form James bond.
At the beginning of every hive Onboarding session, I make it clear of how much consistency is needed to build up in hive.
The same way I emphasize on it, the same energy they'll use to promise and re-promise their commitment, just to drop off a week later.
This reminds me of another hiver who I brought on.
A pretty lass who boasted about how consistent she would be.
Me, mumu, was enamored by her bravadoππ
She didn't even last 3 days after posting her intropost, the payout and all is still there unclaimed.
I wish I can collect all the money from these people's accounts π
I feel that most people who join and leave immediately are the incredibly greedy and impatient ones.
Plenty came to make cool cash, thinking hive is all those volatile stumbling earning platforms where you earn big and you earn fast, using the pyramid scheme to gather referrals and tasks then cashing out.
When they come in and realize they actually have to work for their money, they tend to rethink and simply leave.
The same way there are some accounts who I'm quite ashamed and pissed off, for bringing them in, there are still some who I've taken my time to nurture due to their genuine like for the community
I hold dem by their shirt say dem must learn and grow here
@omokhafue and @oluchi31 are some of my best. Despite them still being in school and fairly new on hive, they still try to grace this platform from time to time.
Because I no dey close enough to knock them on the head to increase the consistency sha.
They post great posts too and the payout is a bit decent, just a pride to me as a onboarder This is something like an advertisement to those accounts, GO CHECK EM OUT
What Have I Learnt So Far?
To be honest, I've learned absolutely nothing π
It's hard to know who would stay or why he/she would stay on hive.
It's best to share the word to whoever is interested at this point.
Although, it's pretty easier to onboard the amount of people your power can carry along at a time. That's one thing I have learned from my hive missionary journey π

You are one of my success story on hive
Congratulations on your hive journey

Helping a newbie navigate through the platform and get them to socialize is one very difficult task.
Hi, your own good sef. Me I didn't even know this platform existed I just dey with oyibo for sports area of Hive where synergy is not like what I'm seeing here.
So me, I have submitted my own entry.
Leave oyibo abeg, how dey go learn am for skul when as a country we never adopt pidgin formally. By now we suppose get pidgin dictionary, we suppose agree say Warri na the headquarters &na dem go dey produce d dictionary, etc.
Well reading through your blog, it's quite a familiar story with many here who chose same topicβ the onboarded need patience, consistency and I would say a solid vision that is long term.
My regards.
Cheers
πππ na only you and @kenechukwu97 weh dey post for there ππ
Oh you must be a real traveller o. So you know. I see him as one big senior because he looks like an old timer; is it yesterday I saw a blog where the person ended by saying it is in response to Kenechukwu's invite to writers.
So yeah na we dey that sports area and a few others like the Barca man and great onboarder himself β @iamchuks. He's such a willing helper on how to navigate Hive.
I dey learn from all of una o.
It's not easy to bring others to the light of hive. I had to laugh where you said you begged someone to write introductory post. You are literally saying, you are begging someone to take something that will transform his life. Inasmuch as I want other to come on board, I'll not beg anyone. It's will just be like you are forcing it on them. I will tell you the good news, show you evidence but I won't make the decision for you.
πππ, that was then, when I was new.
Now I don't even have strength again Tbh
I enjoy your posts that include pidgin.
I don't find it hard to understand at all.
Really πππ
That's dopeππ
"You have to be vigorous in your work", I'll be vigorous oπ
