Oregairu Season 3
I know that I've made a review about this show before. Yet that was just after watching season 1 and 2. Yet, now that I've watched it, I've realized that Season 3 is a whole other ball game and it needs its own special review.
Oregairu Season 3
Plot
It's the graduation year and the volunteers club are on it against despite the injuries of the last session.
A graduation party and prom to plan, a mother to impress and confessions to give and collect, would Hachiman's Romantic Comedy actually work out.
When they say a Romcom can't end splendidly, Oregairu took it personally. After so much comedy happening in season 1 and 2, season 3 dealt into the more serious matters and closing of the relationships.
Normally, such things would be done when the main characters are in their final year, making us the viewers truly understand the feeling of relationships and separation.
Yet this anime wasn't set out to be a tragedy, despite the losing heroines that were set in strategic places.
One thing I loved the most about season 3 was the character development. The development of the friendship between Hachiman, Yukinon and Yuigahama was incredible already in the previous seasons.
Yet the addition of Yukinon's sister made it more complex and added more layers of plot to it.
The sister took the part of an antagonist in this season, showing us a sneak pic into Yukinon's life and why she's the way she is.
If I were to say, I'd say Yukinon's Sister took her antagonist role way too seriously and influenced everybody, with a special preference towards Hachiman.
Another thing I think this season depicted well is the sever emotional strain that happens during that age range.
Normal shows just go with the normal trope of confessions of love and then the other common love triangle/fights and then everyone makes up in the end.
This show, like it's main character, is a realist. In such a way that the emotional themes added are real in nature.
Using Yuigahama to show just how complex it is to fall in love with a friend and have another friend unknowingly fall in love with that friend.
Despite her shortcomings, I rely did pity Yuigahama, her writing as a losing heroine was flawless.
Hachiman's personal development was also significant in this season.
From the original outburst of wanting "something genuine" to later wondering what exactly is genuine. It makes us the viewers wonder too;
- what is genuine?
- What makes a relationship genuine?
These are questions that can't be answered just like that, just like the sensei adviced Hachiman; they are questions that are answered after spending a reasonable amount of time and actually listening to each other.
This was a great scene and a nice theme for an anime to have.
But if I were to choose, I'd choose Hachiman confession as my best scene from the show.
This season touched numerous themes and quite frankly it left me super contented and happy at the end, which is what every ending of every anime should aspire.

There will never be a right or wrong answer when it comes to something as abstract as love. What is natural in a relationship often comes to displease and to be so flexible is to go against nature. You cannot be genuine with someone else and at the same time be genuine with yourself.
