Oathbringer Book Review

(Edited)

I've always felt that stories are recollections which are meant to influence you, change your thoughts and mannerisms to a particular subject, make you see things in the authors point of view.
This means that when you read a story, you're let into the author's world and in a sense you let the author into yours.
The Third book of the Stormlight Archives Oathbringer coincides especially with this feeling.
Even now after almost a week of finishing it I shiver recollecting the scenes that I witnessed as a reader.

Oathbringer

Plot

After Dalinar Kholins Battle in the shattered planes and the founding of the Tower Urithiru a disaster was reborn into the world.
The Everstorm and with it the voidbringers and the coming of a desolation.
Now it's time for the Radiants to reunite with Dalinar as the Bondsmith to guide them, but after almost a millennia of change, different views from different rulers coincidentally agreeing on the one fact that the former bloodthirsty renown Tyrant shouldn't be at the head of a group known for betrayal before.
Dalinar has a long road before he can drop his sword and know the most important step a man should take.

Like my review on Edgedancer, I'll skip the sixty to hundred word paragraph(s) on how unbelievable a writer Brandon Sanderson is and I'll go deep in to what value this book has with as minimal spoilers as possible.

In the last book, Words of Radiance, I had thought that the suspense was humongous and that the book was surely the turning point of the story...boy was I mistaken.
Reading this Book showed just how deep the plot goes in, new secrets unfolded and more was looked into.

It was proven also that reading Edgedancer is optimal for a better understanding of Lift as a character and her abilities in this book because she's clearly going to be a main player from now on.

This book deals mostly on politics and starts incredibly slow at the beginning.
We're put on a show between flashbacks of numerous characters (mainly Dalinar) and seeing how their previous actions and train of thoughts coincide, correlate or are absolutely perpendicular to whatever actions made now.

As a writer, I've come to know that the use of flashbacks is a powerful tool when dealing with a complex character going through transformation.
And such characters are more or less the full cast of Brandon's story.
Regardless, like how in Way of Kings the character of interest was Kaladin, Words of Radiance was Shallan, in Oathbringer we look at Dalinar, the former Blackthorn and present Bondsmith.

We get to see just how important he is to this story as a whole, well we knew he was important since the beginning but now we know why.
His experience with the Midnight Mother and the reason for Odiums fixation on him.

This knowledge comes in such a blurr that the reader starts instantly in forming lines in his head from previous instances read in the earlier books.

The last part is where the book's pace increases drastically, sweeping up the reader and the world to the first taste of the Desolation in Thaylenah.
After numerous plots against him, Dalinar stood before Odium drastically under armed and shocked almost out of his mind.
The traitor reveal was splendidly done too, and the way the last bit was resolved deserves an applaud in my opinion.

Dalinar versus the thrill... Just how I pictured it.

Reading this book is like watching a five star Oscar winning movie, the descriptions let the scene play out in your head and the vividness makes it stay in there.
As you're about to take the first step in this 1,495 paged journey, get ready for the goosebumps, the thrill and absolute delight along the way.
