Life 1999
Finally finish with exams and now have a bit load of time on my hands.
Back in the thick of my papers, one random thought I had was that when I finished with em, I would watch an exam ending movie.
A day after, when scrolling through Instagram, I had decided on the movie, and now a few minutes ago, I just watched it.
Life
Plot
Ray and Claude are two black men of very different backgrounds, personalities and lifestyles.
Due to unfortunate circumstances, they get falsely accused of murder and sent to the infamous Mississippi Prison. After numerous escape attempts, and over 65 years, they find the value of life and friendship.
From the clip from Instagram linked above, I thought that while watching this movie I'll laugh all I want and forget about my woes.
In summary, I expected a humorous off the mill film, I totally did not expect a wholesome movie that touched numerous themes including friendship, acceptance, racism and life.

In actuality, the comedy wasn't really all that comedic. Totally not one of Eddie Murphy's best comedic work.
This show instead of making me laugh made me watch, brood and wonder on just how long karma can work, how twisted and crooked life can get before deciding to straighten back up.

At the beginning we're already at the end, as two nameless inmates were burying two dead bodies that went by the name of Ray Gibson and Claude Banks, while burying, they noticed an older inmate who knew and mourned them. Curious and bored while burying the bodies back up, they asked the older inmate about their stories.

Yet the stories of Ray and Claude is the story of the full section 8 of the movie and from his story we're put on a rollercoaster of emotions. Ending up teary eyed after their fate.
Yet the ending shook us all, the audience and the grave burgers for even though Claude and Ray where convicted of life imprisonment they didn't allow it to steal it all.

If I were to summarize, I'd say this movie is a wonderful film that can be watched by the whole family, and even though I said it wasn't comedic enough, there are still some elements of comedy so you might find it more amusing. I do know you'd find it thoughtful and sober more in most instances. Regardless I give it a good 8/10

Wow, what memories this film brings back. A nearly forgotten gem from the extensive careers of both actors who have made history in the world of comedy films. Very few films combine humor with drama in a single story, and in this case, it is achieved in an unexpected and 100% natural way.
Good review.
