Folk Tunes 🎶
Now there are songs that just stay rent free in your head. Catchy tunes that are so good and easy to remember that they're passed on through generations, growing more whimsical that they legitimately become songs attributed to that nation.
I heard a song on The Voice kids audition and the tune really moved me.
That song was what inspired this post. A song that tells a story, a story that would always be retold.
Folk Tunes
- Take Me Home, Oh Country Road ~ John Denver
This is a song that every Americana knows off head.
Produced in 1971, it's a song that was popular since it's initial release. The song that went on to become an anthem of the state of West Virginia, and an unofficial anthem of free Americans all over the world.
One thing that makes this song so popular among people is not just the lovely guitar or great voice, it's what the songs preaches. The want for simplicity and freedom of life is something that everyone loves about this song.
- The House of The Rising Sun.
This is the song that the girl in the first YouTube video sang.
This song is a true folk song which has intrigued and marveled musical scholars till this day.
Like normal folk songs this song has unknown origins, some point it to an English descent while others point American and French.
The earliest recorded version of the song was recorded on September 6th 1933, by the Appalachian artists Clarence Tom Ashley and Gwen Foster.
Tom Ashley claimed he learned the song from his Grandfather, Enoch Ashley who got married around the time of the civil war.
This goes to show that the song has been around at least a time before the 19th century.
The song has many different versions with many different narrators changing the main protagonist of a boy between a male and a female.
Alas the most successful commercials version is the one sang by the band The Animals which is the one I'll be sharing here...
Out in the Open ~ Puggy.
Is this a folksong?
No.. but it does have the same vibe as them.
This song is a song I've actually brought before to #ttt, yet I'm going to bring it again.
A song with almost the same vibe as country road, one may think its a sequel to it 😀
Yay! 🤗
