Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga

It's quite sad when the whole anime world is tune into one show. It gathers and stockpiles the views, taking control during that particular anime season and remains in control until another show comes in and still the top position back.
It happens quite usually and it's what we have been seeing with Solo Leveling this anime season. It's flashy Graphics and wonderful fight scenes have drawn people's views away from other shows.
Not minding if the show is in probably the greatest arc which is the turning point of the full story.

Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga

Plot

Starting from the end of the beyond the snow saga. The world is put in chaos as everyone is now aware of the existence of demons.
Yukio Okumura joins the Illuminati and Rin Okumura takes up on Mephisto's offer, learning about his mother, Satan, and the most classified secret by the Vatican. The secret of the Blue Night.

It's a sad thing when a show doesn't get its flowers because of another show doing way too well, and I felt this pain sadly while watching this season of Blue Exorcist.
The blue night saga doesn't have much fight scenes, to be exact blue exorcist really isn't of the action genre yet where it lacks in flashy battles, it makes for it in lore, plot and story telling.
And this arc had these factors in excess..

We follow Rin as he goes back in time and learns everything. Watching his mum grow up and the existence of Satan was particular satisfying because this is one of the greatest wonders and questions about the show.
In the past we were given only a sneak peak of their mom through a flashback by Shiro Fujimoto but now we understand her character clearly.

We also get to understand Satan and the lore about him particular to this show. It's quite a comedic tale but it works well.
Another secret that was led bare in this arc was the true purpose of the True Cross Academy. I did have my personal views and beliefs about it but it seems I was wrong.

The Blue Night is something that has been aura farmed for quite some time in the anime and I'm glad it came out as great as it did.
It was shocking how such a world shaking even the birth of Rin and Yukio was and it was emotionally fulfilling to see how Rin reacted to it.

It's clear that this season wasn't one meant for fighting, a turning arc yes, but still a preparation for the final or at least second to final saga.
We've learned the truth about the Illuminati, the world has learned the truth about demons, and Rin has finally accepted and some-what tamed his demon heart.

At this point in the story everybody has had their own minor issues and arc and I think the next one would be about the Shiemi and her position in the Grigori.
The last episode of the Blue Night Saga aired on Sunday last week and since then it's just had me wanting more.

If you haven't gotten on this season yet. Solo Leveling is ending tomorrow so you have enough of a reason to watch this😍

blue flames are in fashion, people love it. That's today's thing. Although that will change with time, sooner or later something new will emerge.

This looks very interesting. I usually like anime with less fighting and a nice story. I will try to watch this. Thanks for sharing.

I finally caught up with its manga just this week, and I can say the wait is totally worth it. The lore and plot just kept on getting good, and ahhhh the new characters and deaths... kept on mounting up. I finished the Beyond the Snow Saga this morning, and indeed it hits differently when those scenes are animated.

It's a sad thing when a show doesn't get its flowers because of another show doing way too well, and I felt this pain sadly while watching this season of Blue Exorcist.

Yes... it was one of the underrated gems that definitely needs more recognition. I've been following this one since I'm in high school and I really understand how sad it is that most of my otaku friends haven't watched or read this...I badly want to yap about my theories and ships to them, but I know they can't relate. So yeah, hopefully in the coming seasons, it will get more recognition >_<...

Hopefully.

I'm following the anime though not the manga...

I wonder if Rin would be able to beat some sense into Yukio

Well, Rin is Rin so he definitely will find a way to mend things...hehehe I'm really excited on what will happen next.

Yep, hopefully🤞

I never understood this anime because I watched it all the way through and it had an ending, but then they released a sort of second season that ignores that ending, so now I don’t know what’s canon and what’s not—it’s all very confusing. I suppose this is the continuation of that season that erases the ending I originally saw.

An ending?

The second season was non canon. Like a filler that was just added.

The first, third, fourth and this seasons are cannon.

Yeah, it had a proper ending and everything—the protagonist’s brother gets possessed or some mad thing happens, and there’s this big fight. Technically, that ending wrapped up the anime, but then they released a season that wiped all of that out.

The ep 16-25 of its first season are non-canon. They definitely aren't part of the main plot—I think it's the studio's attempt to make it end in a happy and satisfying way when supposedly it's a cliffhanger because the story was just starting. Maybe they aren't anticipating for season two, so they kinda made up those filler eps and season end.

I also find it confusing because I read its manga first, and I really wondered if I just forgot those parts, but thankfully my memory is still not that rusty. The lore and plot are really good, and yep just ignore those ep because good stuff will eventually show up as it progresses.

I’ll have to rewatch the anime, to be honest, because I don’t remember much—obviously skipping the episodes you mentioned and sticking to what’s actually canon.

It's interesting that even the Anime genre has adopted themes like Illuminati and satanism, gone are the days of bright sunshiney themed love triangles and such. The most popular Anime seems to all have occultic themes these days. !BBH

I recently watched the movie without having seen any of this anime and the truth is that I was quite hooked. I didn't need to know much to understand the plot but that film made me want to give it a chance and sit down to watch the full anime which I understand is not that long. If I noticed a little cliché story with the appearance of demons and exorcists but still those things always catch my attention.

Just like you say, it may not have had as much action as other things that were coming out, but the amount of story and revelations they packed was incredible. I loved Rin's whole journey into the past, finally getting to know her mother, understanding more about Satan and the whole secret of the Blue Night... it was incredible! We needed a season like this, one that focused on the lore and setting everything up for what's to come.
