Checking and Feeding these brave little ones that survived on our small homestead early in the morning after the Super Typhoon Uwan

Life here in the mountains of Kabayan, Benguet has always been simple and calm, surrounded by pine trees, cool air, and the unending mountain ranges. We manage to raise a few chickens, ducks, and a loyal dog who complete our little homestead.

But everything changed in just a few hours when Super Typhoon Uwan hit/stuck our municipality or the whole province. The winds were fierce and whistling, the rain pouring strong and unending, and that Sunday night was filled with fears and prayers hoping that time could run as fast as the wind of the typhoon. Like many others, I also stayed awake, watching over my children while listening to the storm’s roaring outside our house. Finally after 5hrs of raging and destruction, I can feel that the wind and the rain slowed down. I already sleep even just a few hours.

When I woke up, it was already 6am in the morning and the wind started to calm down, I got up from bed to check on our animals, the dog, chickens and ducks. Thank God, most of them were safe, except for one chicken that was in an open cage outside. It had no proper cover, so the strong wind kept hitting it all night. By morning, it could barely stand or walk. That chicken actually belongs to my father-in-law, and we were worried it will not survive.

Still, I’m very thankful that despite how strong the typhoon was, we are safe and also our animals survived. It’s amazing how they somehow found ways to protect and shade themselves during the storm.

Super Typhoon Uwan have destroyed many things in our province, the crops, electric post, the road and even homes but waking up to see our animals safe gave me a small sense of hope and gratitude.

These calamities remind us that nature can be both harsh and miraculous at the same time. This time I really believe that even in the middle of destruction, there’s always something to be thankful for.

Today, we started cleaning the yard, my husband help in clearing the farm to market roads and I am also cleaning the house that is slightly flooded by the strong rain. That's all about our animals that we care after the super typhoon Uwan and thank you so much for reading my homesteading blog. I really appreciate your time and support! Keep smiling and stay safe!

I was awake when the Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) enters our province, it was one of the scariest night in my life, when I heard an explosion outside (probably power transformers) I immediately turned off our power breaker, such a traumatic experience, I'm glad you, your family and your animals are all safe
