A Simple But Rewarding Way of Chayote Farming - Our Chayote Farming Journey
Hello, fellow farmers and Gardeners here on hive! Most especially here @hivegarden community.

I’m back to share another glimpse of crop from our farm. The last time we went home to my province, I saw the vast chayote (sayote) plantation of my sister and her husband. The chayote were lush green and full of fruit, so I couldn’t resist taking some photos to share and show you how they care for and earn from this crop.

This chayote isn’t just like growing randomly on the ground. Instead, they set up strong posts with wires above, and then plant the chayote underneath. To help the plants climb the wires, they attach sticks so the vines can easily grab on and spread above the wires. This setup is perfect because when it’s time to harvest, you can simply go underneath the vines and pick the chayote directly. Easy and time saving right. Hihi

When the chayote grows in this setup, the fruits stay a vibrant green. If the fruits grow along the ground, they sometimes turn white and burned by the sunlight, which buyers usually don’t prefer. So this technique keeps the fruits looking healthy, fresh, green and appealing which most buyers prefer.

Another advantage of this method is easier harvesting and generally more abundant fruit. Chayote is delicious, especially when added to chicken, the recipe we called tinola!

Maintenance is simple, they just remove dry leaves to prevent overcrowding, which also helps the fruits grow better. We don’t use pesticides here, and fertilizers are only applied occasionally at the base or beside the main roots of the chayote.

Growing chayote this way is low-cost yet very rewarding, especially when market prices are high. You can earn more profit if you have this kind of crop. It’s a practical, sustainable, and productive method that really works in our province!

Alright that's all about our chayote plant, Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my simple farming blog. I really appreciate your time and support. Always remember to keep smiling and stay safe! Mabuhay!
Wow this is the way chayote is being planted pala??Wow so amazing nature it is😊...this is my first to see like this..chayote is one of my favorite vegetables I love it when it's being filled in lumpia, and most of all in chopsuey...Wow 😋
Yes, this is our way here but there are some who are not using wire and post but they can harvest chayote to. Thank you so much for stopping by.🥰
That's right!
Now I know this time that is the proper way of planting it...
That's right. 👍
We also have chayote plant at home and seeing how healthy and well-set your farm is really inspiring. Love the set-up, so neat and easy to harvest!
Oh wow! It's good to know that you also have a chayote plant. The usual chayote we have is the one that is climbing to trees or any post but when the chayote is already known in the market and sometimes the price is good we decided to invest in buying those wired and post so that the chayote will not be touching the ground and it was easy to maintain and harvest them.
Thank you for sharing this post, in my area it is called "LABU SIAM / LABU JEPANG" a type of plant that is easy to grow, we even make the leaf shoots as vegetables, it is delicious when stir-fried...
Yeah that's right. We called The leaf shoots as Talbos and your rights it's delicious dish specially stir-fried and eat it with rice. Hmmm.
