A life of a farmer when the Storm hits - Prayer and HOPE is our strong shield when facing this kind of calamity.
Hello to all farmers and gardeners here on Hive especially here @HiveGarden! I hope everyone is safe and in good health, despite the challenges we’re currently facing. Specifically here in the Philippines, we’ve just been struck by two super typhoons this week and we are currently experiencing the effects of the second one.
i just want to share a glimpse of our farm specially our potato crops after the typhoon Nando.
As farmers, we must remain strong whenever typhoons strike. just like now, we are experiencing the harsh impact of Typhoon Opong after Typhoon Nando. We continue to pray that our crops won’t suffer too much damage, but at the same time, we must be prepared for whatever outcome this storm may bring especially when it comes to our plants/crops and harvest.
It’s painful to accept that because of these typhoons, we might lose our entire harvest or lose the income we were hoping for in the coming harvest season. Just like now, two powerful typhoons hit the Philippines. It's a huge blow to farmers like me, especially when our crops are already in vegetative stage and close to being harvested. It's really heartbreaking.
Some of our crops are currently in the vegetative stage and are already nearing harvest when the first typhoon strike. The worst affected are our potatoes that are still in the vegetative stage, which means they haven’t started bearing fruit yet. If they get damaged by the storm at this stage, they won’t be able to produce any yield at all. So we need to replace them immediately after this typhoon opong left, instead of continuing to care for them, because we won’t be able to produce any yield once they’ve been destroyed by the wind. Whatever little was left behind by Typhoon Nando is now almost certain to be wiped out because of Typhoon Opong.
As i am watching news in the different parts of the country specially in low-lying areas, farms are submerged and destroyed whether it's rice, corn or vegetables. And even here in the mountains, our crops were damaged by strong winds and heavy rains. It’s heartbreaking when you're expecting a good yield, only to end up with nothing.
This is the harsh reality of being a farmer if it’s not the low prices in the market, it’s the wrath of nature that leaves us bankrupt or destroys our crops. And now, we’re also facing national issues like corruption, which makes things even more frustrating for us as a small earner and working hard just to live day by day.
It’s really heartbreaking. But we always remind ourselves - **God does not sleep, He is always watching over us. **We****Just need do our part even if it is hard and challenging we need to continue moving on so long as we are on the right path. Continue planting and one day we are going to have our reward in aright time.
That’s all for now, thank you so much for your time. I truly appreciate it. Stay safe always, especially to everyone in the Philippines. And no matter what, keep smiling.
Mabuhay!
This is also our biggest problem if there's a typhoon. Our corn will be affected. Good thing the potatoes aren't washed away
That's right but the other typhoon which is opong currently striking I don't know how the potatoes looks like because the wind direction is like tornado from east to west to north and south. 😭
I see and the land started to slide and there's more typhoon coming.
that's true, i hope there will be something left.
