Why Splinterlands Players Should be More Involved in HIVE Blockchain

TL;DR

The reason why you as a Splinterlands player should get involved in Hive is because Splinterlands will pay you three times more money for participating on Hive than you can earn in Splinterlands with an $8,000 investment. And no investment required to earn on Hive.

  1. Every Splinterlands player should be taking part in Splinterlands posting contests on HIVE
  2. You can take up to 50% of these rewards and invest in Splinterlands Assets
  3. Consider the fact that same money invested in HIVE will outperform earning in Splinterlands at this time so it might be worth it to get involved in HIVE more seriously

Did I get your attention? Then read on...

To establish the baseline for an average player with the assets that I am citing here let's take a look at my performance last season:

Stat Wild Modern
Rank Champion #333 Diamond #392
Rating 3980 - Champion III 3420 - Diamond I
Rating High 3980 3520
Ratio (Win/Loss) 1.74 (59/34) 0.92 (173/188)
Longest Streak 10 7

As you can see that I have ranked in top 400 players in both Modern and Wild league. The vast majority of battles was actually played in Modern league in order to collect maximum SPS rewards and Wild league was played strategically so that I can collect all the league advancement bonuses that I can easily reach.

If we add up the Wild league battles you will see that I played a total of 93 games in Wild and 361 battles in Modern for a total of 454 games. So basically 80% of the games were played in Modern league and 20% were played in Wild league.

Now lets take a look at the rewards I was able to achieve:

Type Amount
Staking Rewards 1260.605
Ranked Rewards as above 2219.604
Brawl Rewards 338.119
License Stake Rewards 286.195
NET SPS 4104.523

Splinterlands season happens about twice a month so we can use 8,209 SPS as monthly rewards for my Splinterlands monthly play to earn earnings.

If we take a look at the price of SPS token today we see that it is at $0.007221. So if we multiply 8,209 SPS by $0.007221 we get $59.28 for monthly play to earn earnings in Splinterlands. What were my assets that enabled these earnings?

My Assets Used To Earn This Were:

  1. SPS
  2. Validator License
  3. Cards

A quick way to estimate the value of your Splinterlands and HIVE assets is a great new tool from @beaker007 called Bee Balanced. This tool is great to check on your asset value in Splinterlands as well as gives you your KE Ratio which tells you where you stand in terms of your investor/extractor behavior on HIVE.

If we look at my SPS assets we get:

SPS: $2994.23
License: $186.86
Cards: $4,815 to $5291.31 (Market vs List)
Total: $7996.09 to $8472.40

SPS

You can see that I have over 430K SPS staked earning 10.69% yield that is not a bad yield if you want to earn passively:

So my SPS assets at current prices add up to $3,052.67

Validator License

According to Splintercards my license is worth $218.9 and if you buy it at that price it would provide you 25.8% APR which is pretty good and an upside potential as if you were to buy a new Validator Node License directly from Splinterlands you would have to pay $5,000:

I am not saying that anyone in their right mind would buy a license for $5,000 directly from Splinterlands when it can be bought on secondary market for around $218, but it is quite possible that if you buy it now for around two hundred bucks and hold on to it earning 25% plus yield you can sell it later when validators go live at multiples of the current price. Not a financial advice.

Cards

According to Peak Monsters my cards are value between $4836 and $5289:
image.png

So using these alternative valuation sources my assets are valued between: $8,107 and $8,560

So if we take the most conservative estimate of $8,000 and $59.28 times twelve months would give us $711.36 annual earnings. So $711.36 / $8,000 = 8.89% annual return on investment. Since SPS staking is over 10% annual yield and validator license is over 25% it means that cards are the lowest earning asset in Splinterlands. Which makes sense as cards are not really an investment but an NFT asset that is used to play the game.

Hive Blog and Curation Earnings

This brings us to looking at my Hive author and curation earnings. First of all I have Hive Power of 6751 which has an estimated value of $3,268.63

image.png

As you can see in the last thirty days I have earned $23.98 from curation only. This comes out to 12 months times $24 = $288 on a $3,268.63 investment which gives us a yield of 8.81% But this yield doesn't include the APR you get for staking Hive currently at 2.75% which adds up to a total curation and staking yield of 11.56% which is higher than total yield from all of my Splinterlands assets combined.

So staking Hive and curating content (liking other people's posts) on Hive Blog provides higher yield than my Splinterlands assets via play to earn, SPS staking and validator license rewards!

But here is more! Take a look at the image below:

image.png

As you can see in the last 30 days I earned $23.98 via curation but I earned $176.44 by posting on Hive Blog! This adds up to $2,117.28 just for posting on Hive Blog!

This means that my Hive earnings are $2,117.28 + $288 = $2,405.28 in total annual earnings! So with $8,000 investment in Splinterlands you can earn $711 this means that I am earning more than three times more on Hive than in Splinterlands!

How Earn on Hive via Splinterlands Weekly Challenges

Now that we saw what the earnings are on Hive Blog, how do you as a Splinterlands player actually do it?

The basics are simple you don't need anything to start on Hive Blog. Since you are a Splinterlands player you simply go to one of the front ends for blogging on Hive and start blogging. You can use: PeakD or Ecency or other blogging front ends for Hive.

Before you start, you might want to read up on things to do as a new blogger on Hive.

Once you are up and running simply create posts for two weekly Splinterlands Challenges, you can pick two out of three weekly challenges pictured below:

image.png

You should read the rules of each challenge and follow them in order to get voted on by the Splinterlands team of curators.

But I would like to point out one new rule that Splinterlands added to this contest. This rule means that you would be best not to take out all of the Hive rewards. In fact I would recommend that you leave the default payout option under Advanced at 50/50:

image.png

Splinterlands curation team now uses a KE Ratio that basically shows how much of your rewards you are investing into Hive and how much you take out. 50/50 HBD / HP split means that you KE Ratio will be exactly at 2. If you leave all of your rewards on Hive your ratio will be 1. You can leave 50% in HP and your HP will start growing that way you will get exposure to HIVE and will start increasing your influence on Hive Blockchain.

If you want to read more about KE Ratio @azircon has a great post: Splinterlands Contest Posts and Curation

So you can safely take half of your rewards and invest into your favorite Splinterlands assets such as SPS or cards. That kind of balanced approach let's you have some stake in Hive Power and get some more SPS or cards that you want to buy to have fun in Splinterlands. Hive Blockchain is a layer one blockchain on which Splinterlands runs and it has many other interesting projects on it such as the new Leo AI that has a great potential.

As an investment Hive is probably a better investment to focus on with a higher chance of making it big in the coming bull market than SPS. It only takes one break out success like Leo AI to seriously pump Hive, while Splinterlands is a single game project on Hive. But at the same time SPS is a $3.5 million micro cap token at 2563 place on Coingecko by market cap, while Hive is a small cap token with a valuation of $191 million at 364 place on Coingecko. So it could be argued that it is easier to x100 SPS and bring it to 350 million market cap vs 10 Hive to bring it to almost $2 billion dollar market cap.

If you take a 50/50 split and invest have in Splinterlands assets you would have exposure to both.

Please Note: I created the banner image for this post using AI tools and Photoshop taking the current Splinterlands Auction card: HELOISE THE HOLLOW as an inspiration

If you wonder what is the best way to get involved you can use my link to begin your Splinterlands and HIVE journey.

Man, you’ve completely blown my mind with these numbers! Here are my thoughts:

You've put into numbers a feeling I've had
1.-Sometimes enjoy writing about #Splinterlands more than actually playing it. That includes engaging with and reading others' content.
2.- I'm fully committed to hitting my 2.5 HP milestone within a year (currently at 1K). With perseverance, I know I can get there.
3.- Splinterlands and Hive are a perfect match. Find me another game that offers this variety of products and services at this cost!
4,. A major milestone is within your reach this year—half a million SPS (sitting 180K here)! #Vonak

Yes, I am definitely trying to reach 500k staked SPS this year! As far as Hive I will reach 10k power this year, but I am not planning to stop there ;)

This is how I see it Hive and Splinterlands go hand in hand together and I love them both 😍!

That is right Splinterlands is powered by Hive we need them both to be healthy

I also discovered Hive through Splinterlands and started blogging after two years on Hive.

Me too. I realized that we should build up our hive power so that we can support each other in the Splinterlands Hive community and other great posts and initiatives like Posh that are trying to market Hive on traditional social media.

What's crazy is with a little bit of blogging about Splinterlands you can actully make some decent income or invest that back into the game. I wish there where more places like it where I could generate some income and dump it into Splinterlands.

I used to be doing just that taking half and investing it into SPS. I realized that I am underweight in Hive compared to Splinterlands assets so I switched to 100% power up and am trying to catch up. Never sold any Splinterlands or Hive assets and my KE Ratio is less than one.

Great post, nice rundown in the numbers.
And indeed blogging on the hive chain really matters and can help you a long way.

Thank you. I linked to your tool :) The other interesting thing is running a witness node, I am playing around with it but 4TB NVMe storage is kind of a high barrier. You have tech skills the docker based setup is fairly easy. If I do get it running I will post how I did it :)

Would be interesting indeed, looking forward to this.

I Need to investigate more in how to run a node for SPL not sure if my NAS can handle that... For one i probably need more TB to store data

Some interesting stats, thanks for the blog!

I decided to build up my Hive portfolio this year. Even thoug I have a small budget for Hive.

You can build it up even with a small budget also if you set your payout at 100% Hive Power like I did it really helps!

Another tip, you can use ecency to get 200+ Hive free Power delegation once in a while. I am coming up on 6000 points which will give me 30 days of delegation which boosts your curation rewards.

P.S. 3 hours left in Hive Power Up day! I did my Power up :)

@seattlea

Yes, I would do that with 100% Hive Power, but I also want to expand my Splinterlands portfolio. So I have to find a middle way.

I still have a few points on Ecency. How do you get the Hive Power delegation for that?

PS: I also participated in HPUD this month, my first time ever. 🙂

So what kind of posts do you write and vote for? $2,400 in 12 months is impressive!!!

Most of my high payout posts are Splinterlands challenge posts twice a week. I also make good payout with Actifit posts once or twice a week. I vote for Splinterlands, Actifit posts as well as posts from my favorite authors on Hive.

Thank you for your response. I am also a Splinterlands player and I've always wondered about what I should do on Hive. I'm still fairly new to this ecosystem and I'm trying to learn a lot of things as I go.

Excellent article with excellent data! Do more HIVE!
And... lower cost of entry into SPL to be more realistic!!

Yes! Definitely do more Hive. Cost of entry into Splinterlands is actually unbelievably low these days, but not if you try to reach Champion every season like I do :)
