I guess it is a gaming laptop because it has some serious video cards inside. Processor is not the highest end and the spec says nothing about the HDD or the memory :) To me those are very important specs, though I could tell you that video cards are important as my video card is part of the motherboard and it get maxed out even watching Splinterlands battle animations :)
I am sure your laptop is a massive upgrade from the one you had as laptops generally double in performance every 3-5 years. $800 is a great price by USA standards for a gaming laptop.

Good to know and I am taking your advice by getting a separate keyboard and a separate screen. This is perfect for what I am using it for and it feels like a sports car compared to what I had previously which was a 2015 spec.
