Fun Modern Diamond Battle Against VCDragon

avatar

Introduction

I don't use Risqruel Drath summoner very often, but this was a perfect use case for this summoner. My opponent VCDragon also chose to use the same summoner but a different unit lineup.

The Ruleset

The reason we both used this summoner is the ruleset that is in effect. It is a medium mana at thirty five mana available and no neutral units can be played. We also have Keep Your Distance ruleset in effect where melee units cannot be used. Only Fire and Life splinters are available.

The Strategy

My strategy for this battle was quite simple it was based on three main ideas:

  1. Hit the opponent as fast and hard as I can
  2. Use a lot of ranged units as Risqruel Drath boosts all ranged attack by one
  3. Use Inept Healer to heal my units and use Baron Fyatt promo card to halve the damage of my opponent units.

The Lineup

In addition to these three basic ideas the lineup of my units is important. In the front I placed my most beefy unit Torch Myrmidon. This unit has Close range ability so it can attack from the first position, additionally it has Shatter ability that shatters opponent armor. For eight mana this rare rarity card has very good basic stats as well. It comes with ten health, six speed, two shield and three ranged damage before it is boosted to four by our summoner. This is a fast and strong unit.

Next I placed Baron Fyatt. Don't overlook this powerful promo card, there were many matches that were ruined by this card when it was on the opposite side for me. The main strength of this card is his abilities. In particular their combination. There is a Blind ability that makes your opponent miss some shots, then there is scattershot ability that is in a perfect synergy with Halving and Ambush abilities.

Thanks to this combination Baron Fyatt goes first before your opponent even has a chance to fire off a single shot and cuts their offensive damage in half! Also the Scattershot ability ensures that Baron Fyatt spreads his halving damage throughout the opponent's team. Baron also has respectable six health two magic damage and two speed for only five mana.

Next I placed Inept Healer. Even though I don't have this card at a maximum level even at level three this legendary card is very useful. In particular for his Corrupted Healing ability, though Magic Reflect and Phase abilities could also be quite useful.

This Conclave Arcana card is only three mana but has four health, four speed and two magic damage. Finally, in the last two positions I have my main damage dealers.

Kha'zi Conjurer is an interesting card. It does have a negative ability where it can infect other cards on my team with a burn and they start slowly loosing their health, but it also comes with amazing offensive set: The main draw is that this epic reward card has high speed of five with very high ranged damage of six that is boosted by the summoner to seven with a pierce ability, so even if it hits the opponent with a shield it will deliver its full damage even through the shield. Five health is also respectable and all of this comes with only two mana!

And last but not least we have the star of the show Rush Townsend. This is another card in my lineup that is only gold level in the Diamond fight, but even at level three it is the main damage dealer on my team. It fires of before the battle starts due to his Ambush ability and it deals six damage before the fight even starts thanks to being boosted by our summoner.

It also has piercing and affliction abilities that make this card even stronger. For nine mana it comes with three shield and five health and six speed.

The Battle

Link to the Battle

As you can see my opponent chose the same summoner. Placing Inept Healer in the first position is an interesting choice... I decided to place Impede and True Strike on my two main damage dealers. Lets see how this will all playout.

As you can see after round one we are off to a great start, without loosing any units of our own we took down three of our enemy units!

And in round two it is all over, a blazing fast game with lots of kills!

Conclusion

Sometimes less units, but stronger units with better positioning is much better than more units on the field. This battle is a perfect illustration of this conceipt.
