Beating Top Ten Player Mondroid and GhostlyBG in a Row as Part of a Win Streak!

I usually don't share Splinterlands battles, but this is a special occasion!

It is not very often I meet top ten players in Modern League, so it is pretty amazing that I am actually able to beat him. It is even more amazing that I beat Mondroid then @ghostlybg in a row and as a part of a five win streak in Modern Champion League!

Normally, as I reach Modern Champion I start going one win one loss and hardly move up at all. But today something different has happened! This is one of the most Remarkable moments in my Splintelands career. I am playing with Maxed out Chaos Legion set only and I got a five win streak in modern Champion! Not only that I was able to beat Mondroid and GhostlyBG in a row!

Mondroid is a big name and one of the top players in Splinterlands, beating someone who is regularly at top player in the game is a remarkable moment in itself. Just take a look at his stats! Highest rank of 1! And currently at number eleven with 57,225 champion points:

My highest ranking ever in Modern was 23 and I have not been that high recently with the introduction of Rebellion and powerful promo cards. I have about one fifth of the champion points compared to Mondroid:

My total battles in Modern are significantly lower than Mondroid's and my win ratio is clearly lower. This is clearly an amazing moment where a weaker player with a much smaller deck defeated a much better player. So without further delay lets take a look at this battle.

Battle Against Mondroid

With a medium mana and opportunity ruleset my strategy for this battle was simple: Pick fast high damage monsters and use Kelya Frendul summoner to boost their speed further and provide shield to all monsters.

With Deflection Field ruleset in effect I don't have to worry about thorns so melee monsters make sense to me. Additionally for my unit lineup I decided to use one of my favorite opportunity tactics where I combine Kulu Mastermind with Noa the Just and Baakjira. Kulu Mastermind has weapons training so he equips Baakjira and Noa the Just with melee attack.

Additionally Noa the Just is great for the melee based strategy because he removes two shield from the opposing team and it is a very fast monster with Dodge and Backfire abilities. And when he dies he also has a Martyr ability where he boosts the specs of the friendly adjacent monsters.

Baakjira is a very resilient monster with huge health, self heal, strengthen and slow abilities all of which are very beneficial to my team in this battle. For a front tank I have chosen Diemonshark, which is a great tank with trample, retaliate and enrage abilities and has high health, shield and speed with a melee damage of four.

In the back I have Igor Darkspear which for only two mana has a high damage of three ranged attack and is fairly high health as well with a stun ability. And for three mana I have Pelacor Bandit which despite being a very cheap reward card is a great sneak unit.

All of this sounds great in theory, but lets see how this team did in the battle:

image.png

In the first round we took out two of the enemy units while loosing none of ours. The defensive star of the round was Pelacor Bandid who caused multiple misses and should be able to fire at the start of round four dealing four damage to the last unit in Mondroid's lineup.

image.png

While Pelacor Bandit did take his shot he was promptly taken out by Mondroid's Coastal Sentry with her powerful strikes she was also able to take out our Igor Darkspear. At the start of round three our hopes are on a superior speed and backfire on Noa the Just.

image.png

While Noa did score one backfire on Coastal Sentry it was not enough and he was taken out by the Coastal Sentry. We did manage to take out their magic dealing monster which is a very good thing. At the start of round four things look pretty even...

image.png

In round four Mondroid's Coastal Sentry really showed off her power with four strikes of seven damage each for the total of 24 damage per round! What an amazing damage dealer that is able to take out a very resilient Baakjira!

So after that power show it came down to Coastal Sentry vs Kulu Mastermind. Lets see who wins!

Baakjira proved to be the winner of this duel taking home an important win against Mondroid!

Battle Against GhostlyBG

The battle against GhostlyBG is another classic case of using Kelya Frendul to defeat one of the new Rebellion summoners.
Here I am once again using the same tank the versatile Diemonshark. Next in my lineup is an epic rarity reward card Uraeus which has decent base speed of four, three melee damage, four health points and one shield. Uraeus has important sneak and poison abilities. In the third position I placed Merdaali Guardian. This support monster repairs shield and heals the tank as well as boosts health points for all friendly monsters on my team. In this battle healing is not available, but I still think the repair and strengthen abilities make it a great unit to play here. It is well protected behind Uraeus from opportunity monsters as they both have four health points.

Next I have the fast and lethal Pelacor Bandit and behind him I once again placed Igor Darkspear for his stun and powerful blast of three ranged attack for only two mana. Mana is really important in this battle as we only have twenty four mana available. Also, I am not using self healing monsters as there is no heal in this battle.

And last but not least I am placing Chaos Agent in the back to protect against sneak attacks.

GhostlyBG went with Cryptic and Commander Slade combo, lets see how it will do against our team.

image.png

I must admit, the first round was brutal for our team. Commander Slade immediately landed poison on our tank and scored a backfire against Igor Darkspear and Diemonshark! We didn't even touch Commander Slade in this round as both of our attacks missed.

image.png

In round two we did land poison on Commander Slade which is hopeful!

image.png

Round three we are chipping away at our opponent, but the result is far from clear at this time...

image.png

Round four they once again land poison on our support unit, but it is starting to look like we can win if we score at least one time in the next round!

And in Round five poison reduces Commander Slade health to four points and Pelacor Bandit finishes him of with one strike! Important win to create a five win streak!
