A Farewell Waterfront Stroll in Dahab - Sad to Go
Hail to the Hive!
Our diving trip to Dahab had come to an end and I was getting that melancholy you feel when you know you’re about to leave a place you really like and would love to linger a little longer.
Yes Dahab had transformed itself into something that in no way resembled the little seaside Bedouin backpacker spot I visited 30 years ago, but it was still very cool and had retained a certain charm. I still loved it.
So the four of us took a final stroll along the promenade with no set agenda. Just wandering. Taking time to poke our noses into the many shops and cafes along the way.
And to pet the many friendly cats that seemed to be everywhere. They were certainly much healthier than the scruffy furry flea bags that were here all those years ago. Seems they are once again being worshipped as in ancient Pharaonic times.
Watching the kayaker made me think back to my time in the Philippines when I used to use that mode of floating transport to get to work. Admittedly only on super calm days like this when the water was flat. Bliss.
Over this very new looking bridge.
I wonder if they made this castle looking cafe in homage to the Crusader Knights of old?
Must be, surely? Why else would you?
Once we had crossed the bridge we looked back and took time to view Dahab sitting on the waterfront with the red mountains of the Sinai desert in the background. It was an image I have had imprinted on my memory for all these years as it’s so striking with the desert reds and the sea blues.
More cafes and little hotels on this side trying to lure us in. But the sun was now starting to get low in the sky.
So we turned back and went to find the bar we were at the last time with the ice cold Egyptian beers and great views.
You have to sacrifice a beer or two to the old gods as the sun sets. Amd to bid a fond farewell to a very special place
This is the way!

I can understand why you feel sad leaving, especially if you're heading back to UK
Back to grey, dull, monotonous:( but there maybe something exciting brewing in the near future. Fingers crossed 🤞
Thanks for the continues tour of this area, it sure has a charm to it, the castle cafe is cool isnt it
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
Dahab certainly looks like a Bohemian, quirky, and charming place! It's a shame you have to leave it behind. Perhaps it might be a good place to retire, some day?
Hopefully not leave it 30 years again 😃
I would feel very sad too, what a beautiful place 💙
Those are some scenic cafes! From Philippines here. Where in Ph have you traveled to?
I lived in Moalboal, Cebu for 7 years. Also went to Malapascua, Siquijour, Damaguette and a few other places. Where in Ph are you based?
Seems they are once again being worshipped as in ancient Pharaonic times.
