"Estoy como agua para chocolate" / "I'm like water for chocolate" (Esp-Eng)

Había escuchado la frase "estoy como agua para chocolate" pero muy ajena estaba yo de la singularidad de sentidos que devienen de ella.

Una historia por mes (12 capítulos) que se entretejen con instrucciones culinarias de recetas que dan título a los capítulos. La comida como eje central de la historia, tradiciones de un México de principios del siglo XX, familia matriarcal que define el camino hacia el amor y sus reproches. Deslices del amor caliente, tortuosa cercanía, recetas que vuelcan cual piel de gallinas y fuego entre las piernas: la vida de estas 3 hermanas.

Tita, la sensible, talentosa en la cocina, condenada a demostrar sus emociones reprimidas en la comida.

Rosaura, la desposada por el amor de Tita (Pedro). Su vida marcada por los mandatos de su madre y el amor entre Tita y Pedro, le opacan, le hacen ser un ser inerte. Personaje de varias contradicciones sociales en su ser.

Gertrudis, la hermana mayor. El espíritu libre y sensual. La fémina de la trilogía liberada de la historia destinada de sus hermanas, la poseedora del derecho a la libertad y al placer. El personaje disruptivo para el siglo XX mexicano.

Los demás personajes, segura estoy que los descubrirás al leer esta novela. Para mí ha sido una lectura hermosa (no tanto como el final, un tilín fantasioso), unas líneas que atrapan e invitan a seguir. Entre recetas de cocina se cuenta la vida misma, deseos, pasiones desenfrenadas y pecaminosas.

La primera mirada que recibió de él, el primer roce de sus manos, el primer ramo de rosas, el primer beso, la primera caricia,...

Food as the central theme of the story, traditions of early 20th-century Mexico, a matriarchal family that defines the path to love and its reproaches. Passions of passionate love, tortuous closeness, recipes that send shivers down your spine and set your legs ablaze: the lives of these three sisters.

Tita, the sensitive one, talented in the kitchen, condemned to express her repressed emotions through food.

Rosaura, married to Tita's love (Pedro). Her life, marked by her mother's dictates and the love between Tita and Pedro, overshadows her, rendering her an inert being. A character embodying several social contradictions.

Gertrudis, the eldest sister. The free and sensual spirit. The woman of the trilogy liberated from her sisters' predetermined fate, the one who possesses the right to freedom and pleasure. A disruptive figure for 20th-century Mexico.

I'm sure you'll discover the other characters as you read this novel. For me, it was a beautiful read (though not quite as beautiful as the ending, which had a touch of fantasy), lines that captivate and compel you to keep reading. Life itself unfolds amidst cooking recipes, desires, unbridled and sinful passions.

The first glance she received from him, the first touch of his hands, the first bouquet of roses, the first kiss, the first caress...

Love, food, and magic.
