📺 Pluribus (2025) | The Best Original Series of The Year!

This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews.

The Next Vince Gilligan Series

After first making the X-Files (which I really enjoyed as a kid), followed by Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul which are considered excellent Series. Vince Gilligan now made something new and original with Pluribus. There was somewhat of a war between different streaming platforms and Apple Tv won this. They have been throwing a lot of money at original series to expand their own library and kind of have become the new benchmark. They now have Severance which has been a massive hit, Silo which I also watched and Shrinking which I have here ready to watch along with many others. All of them have high production values and so was Pluribus which I highly enjoyed.

Pluribus Season 1 (8.5/10)

The entire setup of this series is a very interesting one and deals with a topic which I have thought about quite often in the past. This is the choice between individualim or having a group Hivemind. I kind of believe that humanity is locked too much in identity and individualism as the reward center mechanism got a bit too powerful which has people chasing experiences to find hapiness (like me watching a bit too much Tv getting tempted by unhealthy foods) instead of finding it more in human connection and trying to make the world a better place one way or another which is more was designed to.

Hot Start & Slow Continuation

I watched the Trailer quite some time before the first episides were released and they avoided any kind of spoiler so I was not really clear what I watched. It took for this series at the start to explode on the Internet (mainly in my YouTube feed and here on Hive) for me to give it a chance. It was aired on a weekly basis after the 2 first episodes were released.

The show really started with a banger of 2 super fast paced and interesting episodes where the 'virus' that makes people connect into the hivemind was spread and where it was shown that there were 12 people who were immune and stayed as individuals. I really enjoyed how everything was laid out and explained at the start

The entire series follow the main chararcter of Carol Sturka (played by Rhea Seehorn) who is immune and goes through the journey (Similar to Walter While and Saul Goodman)

The series however slows down a lot after that and for me it was good that is was aired on a weekly basis as I don't think it's the best series to Binge Watch.

The pace of the show for sure is intentional but I'm not quite sure why. One of the examples was the phone message which took a minute and forced the vierwer to sit trough at least 7+ times during the 1st season which kind of was annoying.

Both Sides Trying To Save Eachother

One of the interesting dynamics on this series is that Carol tries to save the one who got merged into the Hivemind while the Hivemind is trying to save Carol from Individualism and all the bad things that come with this. They say that if someone is drowning you don't think and just try to save them if you can. There are many different dynamics and rules that I won't soil and one of the fun things about this series is to discover all of them.

Another thing that kind of dissapointed me is that they made the Hivemind into somewhat of an extreme caricature to make the show interesting which kind of breaks the entire philosophical idea behind the show as it's destined for individualism to be good and win and a collective hivemind to be bad otherwise there would be no show.

YouTube Channels Theories!!

Equally enjoyable to watching the episodes each week, I really enjoyed some YouTube Channels who analyse the show and come up with some theories. Reel-yGoodReviews & Poggy are my 2 favorites which really helped me to see way more details on everything that is in the show that on a regular watch I just all missed

Conclusion:While Pluribus by no means is perfect as after the first 2 episodes the pace really slowed down while the plot is kind of destined for Individualism to win, I still highly enjoyed following this series both from the episodes and the theories on YouTube and I look forward to the next season which likelt will take forever unfortunately. The creators already said that there likely will be 40 episodes so 4 or 5 Seasons in total and a long time to come before it all comes to a conclusion. For me the best original new series of 2025 and a solid 8.5/10

You are welcome, the series certainly was worth the hype I would say but binge watching might be less favorable compared to having just 1 episode to look forward to each week.
