New Mint Coin celebrating 30 years of the Torres Strait Islander Flag
Australia’s New $2 Coin Celebrates 30 Years of the Torres Strait Islander Flag🟢⚫🔵
The Royal Australian Mint has released a striking new $2 coin to honour the 30th anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag’s official recognition.
In July 2025, the Royal Australian Mint unveiled a vibrant new coloured $2 coin commemorating 30 years since the Torres Strait Islander Flag was proclaimed an official flag of Australia. This release is a tribute to the enduring culture, identity, and unity of Torres Strait Islander peoples so in the true spirit of collecting I had to grab me one:

🌊 A Flag Rich in Meaning
Designed in 1992 by the late Bernard Namok, the Torres Strait Islander Flag features:
- Green for land
- Blue for sea
- Black for the people
- A white dhari (headdress) and five-pointed star symbolizing peace, navigation, and the five island groups
The new coin draws inspiration from these elements, incorporating reef patterns, traditional netting, and fishing traps to reflect the deep connection between Torres Strait Islander people and their environment.
🪙 Coin Details and Availability
The commemorative release includes:
- 100,000 coloured uncirculated $2 coins with a ‘C’ mintmark
There will be a circulating version expected to appear in everyday transactions, offering Australians a tangible reminder of Torres Strait Islander heritage. The version I purchased was $27 and comes in a commemorative postcard and plastic cover. An investment or another shiny piece for my collection? Either, I don't mind!

STOPSo what is the 'C' Mintmark stand for? Curious.
May I suggest for you to post a close-up of each side of the coin in the future, I like seeing the details of the coin. PealD doesn't give me a good enough zomm-in resolution. Thanks @scooter77
