Various Updates In Leaderboard and Piloted Accounts

It's been a week now since I made my last Splinterlands post, and through that time, many things had happened such as the end of sale for Conclave Arcana, which is why I've been seeing many players pulling more and more of the Black Foils and Arcane cards that keeps showing up in my notifications. There was also the start of the Conflicts for the fifth Legendary Archon, Brave The Bull, which has gotten some interesting abilities and tactics. And then, there are also some minor updates in the game, which may look to be small at first, but can have a big impact to the game.
In this post, I want to talk about the various updates that was made in the leaderboard and on the piloted accounts.
Changes in Piloted Accounts

For a long time now, it's been known that some accounts in the highest leagues was played not by their owners, but played by other players, we called Scholars. They were players that were hired to play the Owner's account, in exchange of sharing the portion of the account's earnings in the game and is a system that is also used in other NFT games such as Axie, because some of the investors or card collectors may have love the game and likes collecting their digital assets, but do not always have the time to play the game. Even I, also used to be a Scholar at one point during the Chaos Legion era, that played bltzr-wizard-726, but is now focused on playing my own account, so I'm quite familiar on how these things work.
Recently, there are some updates made in the Modern Ranked terms of service to improve the fairness of the game and it mainly affects piloted accounts at the highest level. Those changes were:
- Modern Champion Accounts that have scholars playing must register the scholar on the account.
On the account's Avatar Page, owner's of the piloted account are required to enter the username of the scholar who is playing their account. With this, other players will know that an account is being piloted by another player and at the same time account owner's will also know if a scholar is also piloting other account. The good thing about it is that it can be easily known if a scholar is win trading using the owner's account more easily or if they were playing more than two accounts in tournaments which is as far as I know is not allowed.
- Modern Champion players can only play one account at a time based on the new TOS. If a player plays more than one account, he/she must wait 5 minutes between switching accounts.
I think the idea with this is that is a player is facing multiple piloted accounts played by the same scholar and losing, they are continuously farmed by the same scholar of their rating, which may seem unfair to the player playing only a single account. Meanwhile, the piloted accounts is not allowed to match from each other, so they can keep their rating.
- The Ratings will change to give a ranking bonus to players that beat significantly higher ranked teams, and a ranking penalty to players that lose to significantly lower ranked teams.
In Modern ranked play, if you beat an opponent with more than 1,000 rating higher than yours, you will gain 60 rating and they will lose 60 rating, and if you beat an opponent with more than 500 rating higher than yours, but less than 1,000, you will gain 40 Rating and they will lose 40 rating. It was made to incentivize players of lower rating if they beat an opponent with much higher rating.
Overall, I think this changes were good to make the game more transparent, both for the players and the owners of the piloted account. Like, if a scholar is not playing as many battles on piloted account B, as he plays in piloted account A or wonder why they are not participating in tournaments, the account owner might choose another player to pilot his account.
Changes in Leaderboard
Aside from the piloted account's avatar, players can now also see who is playing the account through the leaderboard. I think this was great because we can now easily know how many accounts does a scholar play as well as with how many accounts are being piloted. Because often times, the piloted accounts were those that are placed in the leaderboard.
At the same time, we can also now see all the players by rating who have played at least one battle during the season. But to be eligible in the leaderboard, the player must still player at least a hundred battles. This is good because we can now get an idea of how many players are playing within a certain league and if we combine all the players within each league, we can have an idea of what is our current player base.
Closing
And those were the current changes in the piloted accounts and leaderboard updates. There is one change that I did not include since it was still currently being worked on, and that is the creation of another league above champion, which I'm not yet positive that will have a good impact cause that will probably allocate higher rewards in terms of SPS and Glint, including the leaderboard rewards. But for now, I think the team did great.
