Season Rentals And New Voucher Card Revealed
Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
March 18th will be another huge date for Splinterlands. As part of their weekly maintenance window, they are also adding new things and pushing new updates on the same time. This includes the change in the Card Rental duration, the release of the new Voucher Promo Card and the Land 1.75 update, things that will have a huge impact to the game.
And so, what I want to talk about this week are this updates and their potential impact with the exception of Land 1.75 cause I will write that on a separate post.
Season Rentals
Starting March 18, 2-day rentals will no longer be available and cards can only be rented for season. This is in compliance to the Proposal #201 that was voted by the Dao with 84% in favor of the proposal and only 16% against it. I was one of those that are against it and I expresses my disagreement using my governance vote which I will explain later. Either way, there was no stopping this change from happening aside from another proposal so for those who are renting cards, you should prepare a stack of deck. Otherwise, you might not have enough to rent the cards that you use to play.
My biggest issue against this proposal is how it could affect brawls and tournaments. I was a modern only player but I play Wild brawls and Tournaments and because of that, I have to sometimes rent Wild cards to win my matches but with the passed proposal, I will have to pay the entire season cost of a card that I have used only once or twice.
The rental change says that it wants to mitigate the issue with the 2-day rental recycling which people see as an exploit but that exploit was only possible due to the oversupply on Chaos Legion which will be gone in the next few months when Conclave Arcana was released. On the other hand, this could potentially pose problems later as Rebellion was very scarce in the market and having the cards stuck on a player for an entire season means that we will see less number of matches due to low match liquidity.
Final Rebellion Voucher Card Arrives March 18th
If you have yet to purchase Ulfga the Blighted, you only have about 3 days remaining from the writing of this post to get them because by March 18th a new voucher card will replace it and that will also be the final promo card to be part of the Rebellion set. The next one will be under Conclave Arcana. The card that will replace Ulfga the Blighted will be Kelan Gaines which is magic unit with both Death and Dragon Element.

A master of deception, a wielder of both necromantic and dragon magic, and an elite operative in Grandmaster Rathe’s secret network, Kelan is not just another fighter—he’s a force of calculated precision.
Kelan Gaines is an interesting card, being both a Death and Dragon element because with Dragon, it means that it can be used along with any element specially with level 8 where it gains the Double Strike ability that allows it to attack twice per turn, meaning, it can inflict 6 damage in a round. Currently, there are only 2 magic units with this ability.

Because of this, Kelan Gaines has a great synergy with summoners Delwin Dragonscale, Archmage Arius and Lorkus since they gives +1 boost on magic damage as well as on Akane that can give it the Ambush ability. Perhaps, this could also play well with Nidhoggr when you give it either the Blast or the Execute ability during Tactics.

Not only that, the combination of Backfire and Phase along with its 6 speed could be a great nightmare as it allows it to evade all types of attacks and at the same time inflict damage to the attacker when they missed. Some recent card what does the same was Continuum Seer.
Each copy of Kelan Gaines will cost 100 Vouchers or about 2,146 DEC at current price which means that for 115 BCX which is the number of copies needed to have a max level card, you need to have a total of at least 11,500 vouchers or 246,798 DEC. At the same time, each copies has a 4& chance to be a Gold Foil version of the card and buying them in 25 BCX per batch will guarantee of one Gold Foil Card.
Closing
And those were the updates that we will expect 3 days from now. As I said above, I will write a separate post to tackle Land 1.75 to have my more detailed thoughts.
Thank you and see you at the next post.
