Same Finish Line, Same Breakfast

People often say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but whether it is true or not, I can't say for sure, since evidence remains mixed, and the need for one may depend on each person's lifestyle. But the fact remains that eating breakfast provides our body with the energy for it to function, and that for many people, breakfast has become a vital part of their daily life.

The same thing goes for me as well, but that does not mean it was the very first thing that I do as soon as I wake up. During mornings when I go to the gym or when running, I much prefer to eat my breakfast later, so that I do not feel bloated, even though both activities use a large amount of energy. Today happens to be one of those days, as I participate in Santa Maria Town Fiesta Fun Run. It was only a 5-kilometer run, which makes it on the easier side in comparison to the events that I usually enter, but the medals that will be given are limited to only 500 people, so I still need to put my all into it to get one, and I did.

Before arriving at the venue, I only drank coffee, but that was not really a breakfast, and aside from that, nothing else really until the event had concluded for me, and that was when I reached the finish line. After the run, there are sponsored booths that are serving free food to the runners, so after I get my medal, I first go to the Dunkin' Donuts booth to get a piece of donut and a coffee, because the booth can form a line later, since it can take a while to boil water needed for the coffee.

After that, I immediately went to the booth serving rice porridge. It was served hot in a styrofoam cup. As I ate it, I noticed that there were tiny pieces of chicken and egg that were mixed in the porridge.

And for the last stop, we get two servings of sweetened tofu pudding, which is a traditional comfort food often sold by street vendors.

By any means, these foods do not satisfy all the nutrients I need for the day, but what it gives me is an immediate source of carbohydrates to replenish the energy that I spent during the run and Protein for muscle repair. Was it the best source of these nutrients? No! But they are easy to prepare and easy to serve, especially when providing food for the 2000 people who entered the event.

And that was what I had for breakfast early today. It was neither the most healthy nor the most lavish meal, but it was a meal I shared with my friends and with thousands of people, after doing a healthy activity.

Anyway, that was it for me. Thank you for reading my post, and see you on the next one.
