Prepare For The Calamity!
Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
It hasn't even half of the period, since the second Conclave Arcana Conflicts has started, but we already got to see the third Conclave Arcana airdrop card. It was added right after last Tuesday's maintenance, and player's can find it through the Card Collection page by setting the filters to All cards→ Conclave Arcana→ Legendary → Dragon
, and boy oh boy, the next airdrop card is such a beast, and can definitely shake the game's meta. It will be a while till we see the full details on how many entries were needed for the next conflicts, so for now, I just want to dig into the stats of Calamity
and some of it's potential card synergies.
The Third Airdrop Card
The first thing that surprised me about the upcoming airdrop card is the element choice. During the Rebellion conflicts, the third airdrop was of the neutral element, but with Conclave Arcana, they decided to make it another dragon element, which makes all the unit airdrops to be of dragon element, since what comes after Calamity are the Archon cards. That said, there are still 20 days left before we start the Conflict for it, so it was still possible for it's stats to change.

With only 4 mana cost, Calamity is such a menace, with a max stats of 10 health, 4 speed, and 3 magic damage. The stats alone make Calamity a very powerful card, but aside from those incredibly high stats, its abilities are something to look at. Right off the bat, it has the Shapeshift ability at level 1, which means that it can be treated as all bloodlines and will benefit from an Archon's Bloodline ability. At level 2, it gains Life Leech, which means that it will gain health equal to 50% of the damage it dealt, and at level 3, it gets Expose ability that can remove the target's Shield, Void, Void Armor, Immunity, Deflect and Lookout. Last but not the least is the Last Stand at level 4, which gives it a 50% stats increase if it is the last card remaining in battle. That said, it also has the Electrified debilitation, which inflicts 1 damage to all units each round, but if you have cards with Painforge, then you can turn the damage into additional damage.
Overall, this is also a very solid card, especially at little leagues or in low mana battles. Furthermore, since this was a dragon unit, it can be used in a more situations together with other elements.
Compatible Rulesets
![]() Little League | Calamity has only 4 mana which is the max mana that can be used in Little League. |
---|---|
![]() Wands Out | Since Calamity has the Expose ability, it could remove the Void and Void armor of it's opponent. |
![]() Might Makes Right | The 3 melee damage of Calamity makes him compatible for this ruleset and with Last Stand, it's damage will even increase by 50%. |
![]() Need For Speed | Calamity may not be the fastest, but has more than enough speed for this ruleset. |
![]() Noxious Fumes | With all monsters poisoned, the Life Leech of Calamity will help it to sustain the damage it receives from Poison and it also has huge health. |
Archon Synergies
Modern format currently has 4 Dragon Archons that players can use- two from Rebellion and two from Conclave Arcana, but since Calamity has the Shapeshift ability, it can be played with all CA Archons, regardless of Bloodline, and can benefit from its bloodline ability, which makes it a very flexible card.
For instance, you can use it with Kravorn Skarn to give it an additional speed, and if it gets Last Stand, then that can be a really fast card. You can also use this with Akane, and give it an Ambush or even with Nidhoggr by giving it either the Blast or the Execute ability in low mana battles.

What I am not sure yet is if we can use Calamity for other CA archons of which is not of a dragon element, because the description on Shapeshift only covers for an archon's bloodline.
Closing
With Calamity as the third airdrop card, there will be a big shift in the meta for Little League and low mana battles, and if it can be used in Archons of different elements, I think that makes sense, since the team has decided on this card to make this card a Dragon instead of Neutral card. That is something that we will know once the card becomes available. For now, we need to focus on the current conflict and make sure that our battle wagons are stacked up.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!

I heard from one of the playtesters that this is a "play everytime you can" type of card. I think it's going to be a "must have" card, unlike the first two airdrops (IMO).
I can see that happening. Shapeshift, Expose, and Last Stand are just too powerful for abilities to not use. Kind of like the new Doctor Blight for modern.
Yes, exactly! Plus, I bet it pairs well with Lily in wild format to give it camouflage to take more advantage of last stand.
