Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Gramel the Hunger.png

As Splinterlands 5th core set, Conclave Arcana offers not only a new new game mechanics, but also offers a new batch of cards, along with their lore, and art designs that is definitely an improvement from the previous sets. Some of the cards has now become part of the modern meta while some can easily overturn the results of a match and has became someone's favorite card. There are also some players that finds certain lineups to be the most effective, and thus use it every time they can.

As for me, I also had some favorite cards to use within this set, but since I do not own most of them at high enough levels to be competitive in the league that I am playing, with the exception of Gramel the Hunger that even at level 1 can still be competitive, as long as one uses it on the right occasion, and so, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I want to share with everyone how I could win a high league battle by using an under leveled Gramel the Hunger.

Gramel the Hunger is one of the two promo cards that was only given to players who participated in the Conclave Arcana presale. It is a legendary neutral unit with the Fiend Bloodline, which has both melee, range and magic damage, and since it has the Charge ability at level 1, it was able to attack regardless of its position, though its range and magic attack will target random opponents due to its Scattershot ability. Aside from that, it also has the Relentless ability at level 2 that inflicts pure damage as well as Shapeshift at level 3 that allows it to become treated as all bloodlines and Camouflage at level 4 that makes it hidden for direct attack. As I said, I only have this card at level 1, but even at that level, it is still very much effective when used in the right moment just as what I will show you with the battle below, but before that, let me share the ruleset first.

Battlefield Rulesets

Rulesets are the modifiers that change how a player will build their lineup with the cards at their disposal. In the match that I am about to share, there are three rulesets at play, aside from the 31 mana cap and with Water and Life elements disabled for use in this match.

My Lineup

Archon: Cryptic

With the Archon Cryptic, I get the means to give Poison and Expose ability on 2 units and at the same time, the -1 speed is nice so that I can attack much faster and the Blind increases my chance to dodge opponent attacks. Was not really the most ideal archon on reverse speed battle, but the reason that I use it is so that I could use its tactics ability on Gramel the Hunger and uses its Scattershot ability to spread out those Poison debuff.

Units

In this battle, I had Grimbardun Smith as my main tank, cause while it does not have any damage, it has both the Shield and Void ability that reduces the attack from melee, range and magic attacks by half, and it has Immunity, so it will not get debuffs from the opponent, then I had Arachne Weaver to provide it with healing. For my main attacker, I had Dark Arborist at the third position and Gramel the Hunger at the sixth, which may not pack as much damage, but can inflict additional damage with Poison, they could particularly, Gramel the Hunger that could spread out the Poison among my opponent units with Scattershot. Finally, I had Halffing Refugee and Whistling Damon on the remaining spots, purely to serve as fill in units with my remaining mana.

Battle Showcase

image.png

With Fog of War an active ruleset, the opponent cannot directly attack any units aside from the tank, unless they have Scattershot, and just as I expected, the opponent will use a Lorkus team based on his previous match, where if I placed a unit that does not have, Immunity, I will be in a lot of trouble due to their Affliction that will hinder any type of healing. Too bad for them, I had Grimbardun Smith as my tank. Meanwhile, I had Gramel the Hunger that can randomly inflict damage and Poison them.

image.png

In round 1, Gramel the Hunger was not able to land Poison to the opponent, but it was able to deal 2 damage to the opponent's Arahcne Weaver as well as to Expose the Void ability of Cavewise Wayfinder

image.png

During round 2, it was finally able to land Poison to Arachne Weaver and inflicted another 3 damage to Cavewise Wayfinder.

image.png

Moving forward to round 4, Gramel the Hunger was not only able to Poison Craniax the Quick, but also Kellan Gaines. Of course, all of its attacks also landed without problems, more than enough, for the rest of my team to deal the final blow and defeat the opponent on round 5.

Closing

And that was how I was able to beat my opponent with my under-leveled Gramel the Hunger as the MVP, which also gives me an additional 10% bonus for using a promo card. Looking at Gramel the Hunger, its art design looks really cool, and it's also really fit for the Halloween season. Too bad we were not lucky enough to get a Halloween skin for it to make it more scary looking.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
