Celebrating the Spirit of Holidays Within Budget
It's the final month of the year, and during this time, all the way to the beginning of the new year, there are multiple celebrations that people observe in different parts of the world. Many celebrate during this time as part of their tradition, and for others, they use this opportunity to reunite with their relatives and friends. But each of these celebrations can be quite costly, and without managing one's expenses properly, a supposed to be joyful celebration can quickly turn into a financial burden, especially with how the economy continues to fluctuate. So in this post, I will list some of the things my family does to save money while we celebrate this season.
We are not a big family, so we do not really spend much on food; however, many of our godchildren visit during Christmas to get their Christmas money, so we still tend to prepare more meals for them. And to cover that, we made sure that all the food we prepare is made by hand. It can take time to prepare, but the food prepared by hand is always cheaper than ordering food.
We also tend to buy non-perishable foods, such as pasta and canned goods, weeks before the event. It's because as we get closer to it, the price of these things tends to go up, as the demand for them goes up, following the law of demand and supply. At the same time, we compare the prices of the same goods and choose which brand will give us more value for its price, and choose that over the other. We also prefer to purchase products that offer discounts. That way, not only can we save some money, but also prevent being caught in the market rush where lots of people flood the market as it gets closer to the day of celebration.
Another thing we do to cut costs is to prepare juice rather than soft drinks, which is not only much cheaper but also has fewer calories.
When it comes to decorations, we just reuse the decorations that we used last year, so we do not really need to allocate funds for that, and as for entertainment, we will just set up an improvised home Karaoke, and search for songs to sing on YouTube or to simply play music with it.
Compared to big families, we really do not spend much to celebrate during this season, and we celebrate it very plainly. That way, we do not really worry too much about how these celebrations will affect our finances. After all, the real spirit of this season is not in how much or little we spend to celebrate it, but to see our family and loved ones safe and healthy.
Thank you for reading my post, and see you in the next one!
