Campaign Mode: New Chapters Added On Waur Medge Academy

Hello there! @saydie here, manually playing Splinterlands every day!

Gon.png

It's been two weeks now since Splinterlands introduced its Campaign Mode with Book 1: Waur Medge Academy ,that during that time, contains only 11 chapters. It's goal was to introduced new players into the game, reducing its learning curve by teaching the card basics and basic battle mechanics. It is also made so that players that will complete the Campaign Mode will get the Foundation Set which are a set of cards that replaces starter cards and new players can use both in ranked and guild battles. This is a huge improvement that will allow players to slowly adapt to the game, reducing the risk for them to quit quickly.

And recently, new additional chapters were added to the campaign mode which will test all the things that a new players have learned in the previous chapters and put them together to complete the new chapters, assuming that they have already completed the previous chapters but if not, I think that right now is the best time to try it on as the new additions to the campaign also will introduces new players to the wider world of Praetoria and its very rich lore.

New Chapters On Waur Medge Academy

image.png

Aside from the 11 Chapters that was available in the Waur Medge Academy, a two- part prologue that will introduce new players to the world of Praetoria was introduced in the campaign along with new characters. It also gives us an idea where the academy was located.

Prologue (Part 1) tells us that apparently, the academy was located Southwest of Mox City located at the Grand Praetorian Plain, under the territory of the Land Of Prosperity and Waur Medge Academy was the only school in Praetoria that teaches people to become Battle Mage.

As a new player, you will be a student that will study there to become a Battle Mage and on the same carriage going to the academy, you met a Gnome with the name of Gon Fizzlebit. While traveling, the path towards the academy was blocked by wood so the coachman asked both of you to remove the wood but after it was removed a bear suddenly showed up which makes the coachman run away out of fear, leaving the two and that will be where the player's first battle starts.

After the fight with the bear, in Prologue (Part 2), you continue on the journey until you reach the academy, but when you arrive there, you were challenged by Thayko Gol'eavas on a battle where you will experience your inevitable first defeat but don't worry because that was part of the game.

Chapter 12: The Real Test Of What You Learned

image.png

Aside on the Prologue that introduces new players to the land of Praetoria, an additional chapter 12 was added to the book 1 of the campaign mode but unlike the previous chapters, this chapter was divided into four parts with each part spiked the difficulty threshold of the battles so you will definitely face some setbacks while playing it, but don't worry because even old players struggled with them. Just remember all the things that you learned from the previous chapters and you will be able to complete them. But if despite what you learn you still finds it difficult to complete the chapter, here are some tips for you.

CH. 12.1 — Gon FizzleBit

4.png

In this part, you will face against Gon FizzleBit as your opponent. This challenge is just a refresher of what you've learned from the previous chapter particularly, the basic card positioning for each of the attack type. Melee goes to front, Magic in the middle and Range on the back.

As long as you remember that, you can finish this chapter regardless of the element you use.

CH. 12.2 — Maul Bloodgore

3.png

Your opponent this time is the Orc Maul Bloodgore, but unlike your previous opponent, he also knows about proper card positioning and is more experienced. However, you can use his experience by your advantage by checking on his previous match and know how he plays.

image.png

By checking on his last battles, it seams that he is a user of armored melee units. Now, you only need to find a way to counter him which can be done in most elements except water. Also, a certain ability that forces able units to attack a certain target is vital to defeat this opponent.

CH. 12.3 — Gertrude Chompsbury

2.png

For this battle, you will be facing Gertrude Chompsbury which is where I think many players experienced a setback. Although she only uses a single card, it has a ridiculously high damage and health. What's more is that it has the Pierce, which is an ability to inflict damage past the armor.

image.png

That said, it is extremely slow with its attacks, so not only it will be slower to attack, but it also has a high chance to miss its attack against units with higher speed. Also, you might need some luck, so better pray to the RNG Goddess.

CH. 12.4 — Thayko Gol’eavas

1.png

This is an opponent that you have already faced before, and it's time for a revenge match, which you can definitely do now that you have more cards. Just like before, he uses a team to focus on the use of magic unit, which cannot be blocked by most armor.

image.png

Thankfully, among your cards, there is a unit that reduces magic damage, but that alone won't be enough because he also has magic cards that can attack your back, so be prepared for that and position your units well.

Closing

And that was all the new content added to Campaign Mode's Book 1: Waur Medge Academy. Overall, I find the new content very challenging, even for me as a long-time player, so I believe that once a new player overcomes these hurdles, they will have sufficient knowledge about the game.

Thank you and see you on the next post!
