What do you feel is more complex than it needs to be?
Simplifying something is harder than complex and this was so irritating.
In preparation of our travel to Ujjain, about which I mentioned in this post, my travel operator asked me to book the Bhasm Aarti slot in advance at the Mahakaleshwar Temple,. This is a very famous Jyotirlinga which is believed to be self-manifested (born by itself), holding immense religious and spiritual significance in our culture and and it is believed that, seeking blessings of the Lord helps in spiritual cleansing, and liberation from the cycle of life and death.
The Bhasm Aarti is a special ritual in which bhasma (ashes) are applied to the Shiva Lingam and happens at 4 am in the morning. Mom is allowed to attend the ritual, with certain restriction - she cannot see the application of bhasma to the Shiva Lingam and will have to cover her face with the saree. However, since I am going with her, I wanted to use this opportunity to see this rare event, which is a highly sought after ritual, for which prior booking is mandatory, as they do not allow walk-ins.
They have an online site, where one can submit only the booking request in advance, without any further information - isn't that a very bad design making it complex ?
After filling all the details and submitting personal photographs along with bio-metric data all it says :
Your bhasmarti booking request is successfully submitted. You will get further information on the mobile number entered.
So they allow you to submit a request, but then there is no details on when you will get further information, making it more complex than it needs to be. At the minimum, I was expecting them to tell me when I will get that further details - it certainly should not be random. And more importantly, if the booking is accepted, then they will send a payment link, which has to be taken care immediately.
Important Note: This is only an advance booking request. It does not guarantee a booking.
No payment is required at this time for placing the request. If and when the request is approved, the payment link will be generated and sent to you via SMS.
The maximum number of requests that can be placed from any mobile number/Aadhaar is 3.
Look at the response - how can you say If and when !!! That's so vague response which shows how bad the management is done. At the minimum, they should have told that booking for so and so date will be considered and updated by this date. And they allow booking for the same data multiple times - I have tried three times, and every time it gives the same response.
And the most important caution about all our temples - priests always try to swindle devotees, even though you have an official ticket -time will tell how it goes here, when we visit.

I also once offered to build a mobile-application for Kalaripayattu martial art experts when I visited Kerala. I attempted my best but failed miserably.
I even launched IGNOU app on AppStore. But all I got was criticism & complains about IGNOU (nothing related to app)
Community driven apps or self-motivation-driven apps are always like this. You can't expect much because at the end, it lacks professionalism, motivation & above all funding.
I think, this must be driven by temple management ,and they should have done a better job - a temple like this won't have problems with funds, I am sure.
Or I believe, it is intentional - they'll get back to you - because they want to control the bookings
Exactly, it could have been intentional, retaining full control.
They’ve got a bad management. Booking request feels like you’re begging them to make a booking when you actually want to pay your money
That’s bad
what a control they have !
Muted because these images are not your own, (taken by you.)
Well, I thought the explanation was more relevant, images were just to help those explanations..anyways...
Well, what you think doesn't matter in a community I have made. I have set rules and I enforce them for good reason - so posts with images like yours used in this post do not get used because they look shit.
You don't have to follow the rules of course, but if you, or anyone else, does hot then I mute the post. People have argued with me in the past but because it is my community they never convince me. People are always welcome to create their own communities if they like...and can post as they like in them.
As someone who has been around for over eight years I would have expected you'd respect the rules set out in a community. I'm a little disappointed in your response to be honest, but you're entitled to think and respond as you please.
100%, no offense there, I did not mean to say, you accept it.
This kind of vague booking system is so frustrating. If they just provided clear timelines and updates, it would save everyone a lot of stress. It kooks like unnecessary complexity for something that should be straightforward.
This is the most incredible part of the entire post. This is just an advance booking request. It does not guarantee a reservation. The main idea is to guarantee your entry, otherwise you can go without it and see how it turns out. But well, I imagine it's company policy.
The important thing, my friend, is that you can guarantee your stay as well as the entrance fees to the different tourist sites that are in high demand due to their importance in their culture.
Something that should be very simple becomes complicated, booking should be a matter of minutes and in the same way, since the place of tourist interest is so crowded, there will always be people waiting there.
I can understand the frustration here. Something as special as the Bhasm Aarti should be easy for devotees to book, not a confusing and stressful process. Clear information and a simple system would make the experience so much better for everyone.
