Weak excuse
Do you like or practice them ?
Sir, for which news paper you do reporting ? I was standing on this spot and clicking some photos in my SONY α6400 and that voice repeated again - Sir do you hear me ? Turned around and saw a gentleman sitting in a car, asking that with a smile, taking his windows glass down. I can never ignore a smiling face, so I went near him and then came the introduction followed by a handshake - I am Basant Panda, a local news paper reporter, you got a nice camera, which news paper you belong to ?
No Sir, I am not a reporter. I do blog on a decentralized blogging platform built on #hive, to capture my memoirs, so that I can look back and remember these beautiful moments in later part of my life. My son has come to appear the exam, so I am here. As far as I remember, our Parents never bothered about our exam, nor did they accompany us and now look at us - we can't relax and sit at home, even though, today we can book an Ola or Uber and send them to the exam center. At times I get confused, is it our problem or generation gap or a shift in trends ? And look at the crowd, I am not alone, so most Parent are doing the same, so I would consider that a trend ? We take pride in doing our part and that makes us happy !!
No Sir, it's a problem in the system - that answer from Mr Panda came with a flavor - I could smell and recognize that he is drunk, now I understand what was the secret behind the smile - he is enjoying the scorching heat.
And he continued - my son is also appearing the exam inside, and I like what you are doing, these will be some nice memories indeed.
I asked him politely - Sir, you came with your son and still drank ? I don't think it's a nice way to cheer up your kid ?
I tell the truth upfront on people's face and for that reason, many do not like me but I feel uncomfortable if I don't do that. If someone does not have the courage to face the truth, then better I keep distance from them.
Mr Panda replied with a smile - Sir, I did not drink till the time he entered, I did all my part, giving him all the support and encouraging to do his best. But after he went inside, I saw this Dhaba located nearby, so I thought to enjoy few sips and enjoy these moments. And I have a driver with me, so I am not driving, and that takes away my burden. It's very difficult to deal with the heat waves otherwise.
So he has a reason !!! That sounded like a weak excuse, but then it was his choice.
Just then the kids came out and when my son joined me, he extended his best wishes to him. I thought to take a photo of him, but then later give up the idea - everyone has rights to enjoy his life in his own way, and that person was not bad.
Some times it's better to ignore these weak excuses and look at the bigger picture ? What's your thoughts ?

In cases like this people need to hear the truth, drinking and still brought his son was risky and he also risked his son's life.
He drank afterwards, that was his weak excuse :)
I agree with sir it's better to ignore those weak excuses and I also liked that you told him that upfront, maybe next time he would consider drinking around his kids.
I could totally imagine myself in your shoes, standing there with the camera and then getting pulled into a random but memorable conversation. The way you handled it with honesty but also without harsh judgment really stood out to me.
I'm not sure how nice could it be being the son of this person, he comes out after exam to find his father drunk? Not a good image or memory
Yes, I was thinking the same, but I did not want to embarrass him more.
Good one from such perspective of truth views.
Won't his son perceive the drink from his breath.
Weak excuses indeed. Greetings.
The mistake made is trying to drink in front of his kids, it is not actually supposed to be so.
While everyone is pondering about the actions of that man, I wanted to know if it is one of the competitive exams like NEET, JEE?
IPMAT
How are you, dear friend @sanjeevm?
I don't think it's appropriate to be drinking while waiting for your child. People lead by example, and that wouldn't be good for your child.
It's great that you accompanied your son to the exam. My congratulations.
Have a great day.
Is drinking and driving not a thing over there like it is in the US. I would have been calling the cops on him here. That's a huge danger to his son and all of the other people on the road. Congrats to you for speaking up!
Yes, we do have that restriction here as well, but he told, he has a driver, so he won't drive. But in any case, this was not a time or place to drink.
No, definitely not!
