Ready to fly after a long time..Which site you book your tickets ?

My duty fulfilling Mom's desire of visiting the remaining sacred locations

image.png

Finally we are planning to fly after a long time, for which I booked the tickets today. Last two years had been a blanket ban for travel to help the kid focus on career, now that he has decided to take a drop (will share more on a separate post), I decided to start fulfilling Mom's desire of visiting the remaining sacred locations and our next destination is Ujjain, which is one of the four sacred locations, where four drops of the nectar of immortality fell according to our Hindu mythology. The famous Kumbh Mela happens at these four places for that reason - Prayagraj (Allahabad), Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. We have already been to Prayagraj and Haridwar, so after Ujjain, Nashik will be next on our list. This way it also fulfills my visit to all the sacred place along with doing the sacred job of fulfilling her desire - she loves to travel even at this age.

image.png

Now when it comes to flight booking, we always try to look forward for some discounted fare and I use https://www.skyscanner.co.in/ to find out cheap flights. They are just a search engine, and help us find the best flight ticket but the actual booking is done directly on the airline or travel provider, to which they redirect. In my case, it pointed out to Indigo for the cheapest deal but when I landed in Indigo, I saw they are also running an anniversary sale. The way they advertise will make you feel like you will definitely get some discount, but after going through terms and conditions, I was disappointed to find out that the offer is applicable on select sectors only. Since the price shown by skyscanner matched to Indigo site, I decided to book my tickets anyways in Indigo site, as it gives some BluChips Balance that possibly can be used in future.

image.png

Do you use any other site for your flight booking that gives some more advantage ?

image.png

I also verified their offers from Cleartrip and Goibibo, and the price shown in the search result is not exactly the same because the airlines or service provider add a nice convenience fee once you fill everything and move to the payments page. Even Indigo did that, they added a nice 1.5k for convenience fee which I could not save by trying out different payment methods.

image.png

And as you see in the first image, they provided a scratch card promising some reward, but then when I scratched it , it said better luck next time - even a very small reward would have meaned something but their buggy site now tells me I have no scratch card.

Now that we are starting some travel plan, I am curious to know, if you use any other site and get some advantages ? And I go to my local tour operator for hotel and vehicles, because they provide better competitive rate than other sites like makemytrip or other sites. And support wise, they provide much better support available 24/7. How do you book your hotels and taxi ?
I am interested to know about your experience if it can help me better.

I think the local tour operator provide the best rate as compared to online...I noticed this on multiple ocassion....BTW avoid visiting Ujjain on weekends. There is always huge rush ...and plan for Omkareshwar too...its not that far away.

Called my tour operator and they said Omkaresgwar is 1.5 hr drive from Maheswar, so we should be able to go there.

Did you try Travala? It's travel site where you can use crypto. I am not sure it works in India, but it might be worth a shot.

I have heard about Travala, but since no plan to use crypto, I go with local tour operator.

Sometimes that ends up being the best anyway.

It always ends up being the best because when I compare, the price and star category in online sites are always inflated to higher side.

It has been years since my days of regular travel by plane. These days, we just have a family member who is a travel agent that gets us solid deals with enough notice.

Now that you are traveling again, it will be great for us to follow those adventures so that’s good news for hive!

Hopefully you will find a platform with good usability and rewards.

For traveling, I always try to get to someone who has done the trip recently so I'd know the potential pricing.

I also check online myself for the most affordable price..

Usually I go straight to the air company site like rayanair, Alitalia etc

As for hotels I either contact it directly or use a travel agency

It's good you want to fulfill her desire! She will be happy for sure!

That sounds like such a meaningful trip, especially fulfilling your mother’s wish to visit Ujjain. Travel feels even more special after all the restrictions we've experienced. I’ve had similar struggles with flight booking platforms too, hidden fees and fluctuating prices can be so frustrating. Skyscanner is decent, but you might also want to try Google Flights for comparisons or apps like Hopper that predict price trends. Wishing you and your mother a peaceful and memorable journey.

Sharing quality time with our family is the best decision, especially if we visit such historic places as those described above, so all that's left is to enjoy it all together.

That's the best idea, my friend, to hire a tourism professional who will take care of all the reservations so you don't have to worry about anything during the trip, but just enjoy it with your family.

Your mom must really be thrilled and excited that you are fulfilling her remaining desires. So have a safe flight and enjoy the trip with family

I don't have any experience planning trips, so what he wants to do, my friend, but I think it's good that he hires the best possible staff so that the experience is excellent on that trip.

I haven't traveled by plane yet, but I plan to do so at some point, and once I start, I will definitely visit every country and place of my choice.

I have never experienced flying with a plane. I just don't have the means. But if course, I'd love to do so.

There are local websites in my country, so I can't recommend any specific sites to you. I don't fly very often myself. But if you need a place to stay where you're going, you can check out trivago.com.
