Raksha Bandhan - the bond of protection and care of a brother for the sister
They fight like enemies, but they also care for each other like best friends.
Today is Raksha Bandhan, an auspicious and popular ceremony in our culture in which, the sister ties the sacred Rakhi to the the wrist of her brother and in return the brother gives her a gift, whatever he can to the best of his ability. The gift is just a token towards the role and commitment of a brother in his sister's life to protect and care for her, till he is alive. In our culture, even today, during the marriage of the girl, the brother takes the responsibility of leaving her at in-law's house, and escorts her, whenever she want to visit back Paternal house. The brother has all the responsibility to not only protect and care for his sister, but provide all the necessary items for every ritual at her in-laws house, after marriage. This is a bond that lasts very long, and it gives so much comfort to us (Parents) to know that there will be someone to care for her, even after us. The lady and I do not have the privilege to feel the brother sister relationship, so it's always a pleasure to watch this relationship grow under the same roof - at times fighting like enemies, but then the also caring for each other like best friends, after a few hours.
We always try to teach them all the cultural values and strongly believe that this is what makes our life more meaningful. And in this process, they will be able to learn and carry forward this legacy to their children - to live every moment of life with a strong commitment for each other, because there won't be anyone else who can understand each of them, apart from parents.
And sweet is part of all our celebration and this was no exception - a delicious Chana Poda (an authentic traditional sweet of my place) was prepared at home.
Apart from getting 500 rupees as gift from her brother, she wanted to eat Belgian waffle and I took her to fulfill her desire on this special day - girls are given the highest care at home - they have the larger influence on what they grow up to be.
And after a long time, I shared couple of photos with some music to Fakebook - the web2 has much better means in place to hit people's sentiment - this is something we need to make better.

Ah another heartwarming tradition! My little ones fight like cats and dogs and protect each other at the same time. Must be universal!
Taking a moment, or a day, to consider our special family connections is definitely worth preserving as a tradition. A little waffle reward for the family is not a bad thing either!
Love following you and your happy family.
Yes, it's so much fun to watch them.
This is really a good sacred bond. It is really important to wait for your brother to do a lot of work for your sister. And the way your brother acts protectively for your sister is really a wonderful ritual. Performing such traditional activities is really a cultural feature seen in Hindu religious activities. I don't know much about Hindu religious activities, but I have some knowledge about it since Hindu friends have worked closely with me.
Yes, there is so much ethical learning from our culture.
Such a beautiful tribute to sibling bonds and traditions. These rituals keep families connected and strengthen relationships across generations. The love and care will be there. Happy Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is such a beautiful tradition. It’s not just about tying a thread, it’s about love, care, and the promise to always be there for each other. The joy, the gifts, the memories we make on this day stay with us forever. It’s a reminder of how special the bond between brothers and sisters really is.
Wow l love this your culture is so unique and bond brother and sister together, it will be difficult to harm each other and the love will always be there
This is really sweet. I love such traditions, I love how it creates a special bond between siblings. All kudos to you sir for giving your kids the privilege to practice this. It's really heartwarming
When siblings actually get bonded, their bond is always stronger and very determined
Brother and sister bond is special, I don't have any sister or brother, but I often see brothers protecting sisters... It's a nice cerimony you do

That's how we are as brothers. We fight amongst ourselves a lot, but we also protect each other like lions.
Their culture is very interesting, how a brother takes care of his sister even when he's already in a relationship. That's simply how all siblings are, but their culture is fascinating.

Happy Raksha Bandhan. Your culture is one of the best in the world. I will never tire of repeating it. Also, if you can pass on those values to your children, and they in turn to their future children, you will always keep it alive over the years. An unbreakable bond between siblings.
Raksha Bandhan is the best and useful tradition I have heard. Actually brother and sister bond most important for keep happiness of home.
That's a really sweet and beautiful festival! The bond of a brother and sister gets cherished well. That's really good to see such rituals being followed by you! Thankyou for sharing!
Have a good day:)
That's an Indian festival being celebrated mostly and originally by Hindus. A long story behind it.
It feels promising to see a family established with cultural values. Even if we dont share the same culture, I adore your way of parenting. Teaching your kids about the culture that would save us from other misinterpretation. It is also a good start for sense of belongingness as our child grow. You really have a good way of being a father and I see where your kids will be in their bright future.
It is common for young siblings to fight but love is still there. Nice to see your kids loving each other.
Our Indian culture is really very understandable. In which different importance is given to every relationship. The relationship between brother and sister is on a different level. When they are young, there is fighting. When they grow up, they are ready to help. When they become elders, the relationship between brother and sister is one of warmth for each other. In my opinion, Raksha Bandhan is more special than a festival for brother and sister. @sanjeevm
Yes, the brother sister relationship is the next big relation after parent child - knowing each other from birth, no one else can understand them better, even their spouse. They fight, they compromise, they tease each other but then they care so much for each other.
Your point is true to some extent. But I believe that parents and children stay together for two stages of life. Whereas siblings stay together at all stages which gives their relationship a different height. I salute your thoughts.
🪢💛 Such a beautiful tradition and a special way to honor the bond between siblings. Raksha Bandhan reflects love, care, and a commitment that transcends time. 🌸✨
For the last few years, I have not been able to celebrate Raksha Bandhan due to my busy college schedule. College starts just a week before Raksha Bandhan and then I have to go to another state.
