November Hive Garden Journal

Better late than never....

20251031_084615.jpg

Can't believe, we are in Novemeber and the Winter has arrived, time flies so fast. Unfortunately, it's still hot in the day, but we do feel a little cool weather in the evening, that extends till early morning - may be the effect of global warming. If all had went well, then by this time my garden would have been loaded with flowers, but unfortunately, this year, my plan was spoiled by God, Dad got admitted and then we went on the trip. But hey, I am not giving up and trying my level best to still come up with a descent garden by December or at least before the New Year.

I renovated this place by replacing a thick polythene on the ground to prevent growth of grass, you can see the difference, if you compare this to the one in my last post.

And the Chrysanthemum saplings have grown well, with lot of care that involves spraying insecticide every week. Our garden is full of insects, who love to eat the leaves and I have been in war with them.

In the last week of October I went to bring some french inca saplings and look at the pathetic state of the Nursery's beds.

20251023_114825.jpg

They were not even willing to sell those saplings and on request, gave me only seven saplings free of cost and asked to come back a week later. Will they even survive ?

20251031_083313.jpg

Like me they were equally frustrated with the rain, that extended till last week of October with a cyclone to end with. And as soon as the rain stopped, their new beds were full of very healthy saplings.

20251031_083403.jpg

Their set up is very sophisticated but still they have to live with the mercy of the nature, so the good thing to learn from them is that they keep trying, putting seeds in new beds every week. One good result, all their effort justified - they charge ten rupees for each sapling, increasing the price by 20% this year.

While coming back I collected some seeds (free) from these garden balsam (Haragoura) plants - curiosity of a gardener never ends.

20251031_084843.jpg

And the sad part of procuring saplings at the right time is that you have to visit on a continuous basis and find it yourself, if they are ready and available ( otherwise, people take them quickly). I brought the phone number of a person, but he did not even pick up my call - when I met him and asked, he said, I went to my native. You can't rely on the office even - their office bearer has lied me twice and I told him on his face - I never lie, keeping your word is sign of a real man. You are not giving me free - it's your business and there is no reason to lie !!! But anyways, they are a govt run organization so can't do much. I wish they were more systematic to at least tell, when we call.

Considering higher price, I brought only that much that was necessary, including ten saplings for Mom, to be planted at my native.

And as you can see, I grew five Chrysanthemum saplings for her as well (in the center) in poly bags - a little happiness for them is always in my mind. Hopefully by mid December, we will see flowers and if not, then by New year, but am I am happy that, I have come this far, it's better late than never.
