Jack Fruit Fest for friends and family

We are freely distributing a lot to friends and our society

DSC08348.JPG

This year we have abundant harvest of Jackfruit and this is the time, they are ready to be consumed. It's so interesting to see our festivals aligned with nature - they are first consumed on the day of Savitri Vrata, about which I wrote in my last post. Since Goddess Savitri lived in the forest, and was mostly eating fruits, women eat only fruits on that day. Also fruits are treated as sattvic food, pure and conducive for spiritual practice, so it makes sense for the occasion.

These twin brothers were resting on ground, and I brought the elder one on the right on the first occasion.

DSC08334.JPG

Each of them weighs more than 15 kg, so having them at such easy reach reduced my effort.

DSC08311.JPG

Then this was ready in another plant, and I had to bring a wooden tool to reach there and Mom had to help.

DSC08315.JPG

And remember this bunch from my last post in April ? See how they have grown in just about a month. So much so that, one of them got squeezed and destroyed. So we had to carefully cut few of them to allow space for the little ones.

DSC08330.JPG

So they are almost at a height of ten feet and I had to cut them carefully and leave on that table, and then take to the ground.

DSC08333.JPG

DSC08338.JPG

This is what remains now - they ripen fast, after cut, so leaving them on the plant gives more time to consume, but the down side is that, they no longer retain the same taste, if it rains. Unfortunately, its raining since last two days, ideally monsoon should have come in June second week, but we have some pre-monsoon rains happening now - you can never control nature.

There are a lot on the top of the plant and Mom has a tool to cut them but in an earlier incidence she tried that and met with an accident while cutting few of them solo - they fell and injured her, thankfully it was minor, but it left a mark. I have strongly advised her to not try that again, a weight of 15 kg falling on head could be dangerous. Like last year, we will call our friend from my Football team to help with them.

Who remembers this one from my last post , still holding strong - nature is amazing, isn't it ? This is the best variety and I am keeping track of it's progress, let's see how big it becomes.

Couple of them were kept in the front and these many in the back seat - certainly I know, we can't eat this many, but we also distribute them to friends and in the society. So even if it's a little difficult to bring them, I take the pain and the boy helps me after I arrive here. Those who know it's benefits, follow up every year - poor man's fruit has some amazing health benefits, that very few realize. For us, its now our breakfast every day, and we are saving the seeds to try something new - oven baked recipe. I will share how that goes on - they are used in curry, and taste nice, but I want something like snacks. In our native, we have a chullah, and putting these seeds in slow heat (the left out heat after cooking completes) produces mind blowing taste, but we have to find out a modern way using the oven. The boy is a big fan of them now, so I hope he will figure out something.

Jackfruit is one of my favorites and our tree has produced quite a few jackfruits, although the yield is much lower than last year.

Oh man they are SO big! The car gives really a good proportion! 15kg is like a big watermelon! You can eat for days with one

Those fruits look huge, my friend, and it's a good idea to be able to share them with family as well as friends. At the same time, tell them or remind them of the benefits for the body when consuming them.

Great harvest this year and well, the great thing is to share a little for each one so they can enjoy all its beneficial properties.

I had never seen this fruit before and I searched the internet to see if there was a similar fruit in Venezuela, but there was not. I am surprised by its size and weight. I just checked and it is good for many things, even to fight certain diseases. If I lived nearby, I would surely go out fast to look for one. If only people knew how privileged they are to have certain fruits in their country, how grateful they should be to God and nature. Greetings

The pic with the fruits on the back seat really puts their size into perspective. If I remember correctly you had a post a while back asking the community to guess the name of the fruit. Never actually tried any of such fruits, they don't come in our stores.

Hi @sanjeevm, I've seen jackfruit in green grocers here but never tasted them. They're enormous, so many hanging together there, you sure have an excellent crop from that tree!
I look forward to seeing how you prepare them.
Have a wonderful Wednesday 🤗

@sanjeevm my dad used to love jackfruit and I profoundly remember how he used to cut it and then cook it with great taste and delight. I used to sit besides him and watch the whole process.

Though he completed his journey of Life, those definitely were good old times.

Jackfruit has immense health benefits, and has ability to cure diabetes, once it was poor man's fruit, but wise people know what it brings. A Microsoft CEO left his career and started https://jackfruit365.com/ to bring a revolution.
