All that glitters is not gold

avatar

But how do you figure out ? Everything tend to glitter now a days.

20250113_163126.jpg

The society that we live in, is a descent society with most of the people being educated and everyone shows up to be very nice, even though they are not in reality and the most difficult part of this is, how do you prove that ? They glitter like gold, speaking nice words on face, appearing to be very polite, gentle but once they see an opportunity for some personal benefit, they take advantage of that, without bothering about how that would hurt others.

20250113_163322.jpg

20250113_163246.jpg

So to show them what they pretend to be but actually not in reality, I fitted this CCTV at my own cost, to catch people who would take flowers from my plant, that I grow with lot of care, like a child.

20250118_082348.jpg

Finally the day came, when someone did the mischief and even left the evidence - a broken big branch, after taking flowers. Looking at CCTV footage is not an easy job, you will have to spend considerable amount of time to first find out the time and then zoom in to collect evidence. It almost took 5 hours to do this - more than half a day job.

20250118_140121.jpg

She manged to be careful to not show her face on my camera, but we have cameras all around, so after finding the time, I looked upon other cameras and capture few images.

20250118_142332.jpg

Surprisingly none of our staff recognized her, so I posted her photo in our whatsapp group asking her identity and that is when things went west. Some people argued, this violates personal privacy, even though she did the wrong thing, some came in my support as they have seen my hard work. But why would you steal the reward of someone else's hard work ? Just because you see an opportunity and think only about yourself ?

20250118_083211.jpg

I tried to revive that branch and gathered courage to not listen to anyone and decided to confront her. Since I even did not know her, so I had to again find on other cameras to see which house she went to, and then walked to her door. The most interesting part of this real event was she out-rightly refused doing the misdeed, not knowing that she was captured on CCTV.

For a moment I was speechless, how do you react to such situations ? Then I politely told her that I have CCTV footage of what she did, her reactions instantly changed - I did not know that there is a CCTV, else I would not have done this....I have come recently to my daughter's house.

But did you ask anyone ? Come on, that means, it's not your real behavior, you would not hesitate to do the same thing again, if the CCTV is removed, isn't it ?

No, I won't do this again.....I preferred to not extend the conversation, as it's really bad to hurt a woman. Coming back I was thinking, how can people do this ? Me and my wife can't even use our own stuff, without asking, if we feel the situation requires that. She is very innocent, and many of her friends take advantage of that which has resulted in her having very limited friends now.

I did inform in the group that I have identified the lady and that caught fire - many wanted the CCTV to be removed, but thankfully there are few good people who are with me. People always try to glitter like gold, but truth always prevails, it may take some time. Coming Winter, I am going to put a board - YOU ARE ON CCTV - now you decide how to maintain your privacy!!

Interestingly, after all this someone close to us told she knew the lady but did not have the courage to tell. It's an interesting world we live in - gold will always glitter without advertising.

This post is in response to the Creative Nonfiction Prompt #143.

Note - Face of the lady has been blurred to maintain her privacy...this post is only intended to showcase the reality, not a person.

That's really bad, the woman wasn't really remorseful she only admitted because of the cctv and would have done the same thing if she wasn't caught. It's so sad that people only think about themselves and don't care about others.

I read your blog and felt really bad about what happened with you. When we grow plants, I know how much time and emotion we put into them. We take care of them for days and weeks, and only after a long wait, when the season comes, we finally get to see the flowers . In such a moment, if someone comes and takes them away, it really hurts.

I remember there’s a mango tree at my grandfather’s house, and during the season, it grows a lot of mangoes. It’s a big tree and produces so many mangoes that even after the whole family eats and we give some to relatives, a lot of them are still left.

At that time, many people from outside come and throw stones to drop the mangoes and take them. My grandfather never liked that because it took a lot of time and care to grow that tree. Now, it grows naturally and doesn’t need much care, but when it was small, he looked after it for years.

Whether it’s years of hard work or just one day, effort is still effort. So when I read what happened in your case, I could understand why you felt bad. And what made it worse was when you confronted the lady and she didn’t accept her mistake. She only admitted it when you said you had CCTV footage. That’s even more disappointing.

The good thing is that, you have set an example and hopefully incidents like that will at least reduce for sometime in your Society.

Thank You

Yes, now people are scared, fearing that I will come to their door, if they do the mistake. It has to be that way unfortunately.

I hate when people do this, steal your own flowers or vegetables without asking

You have done well!

I remember when had a tomato plant, tomatoes were literally huge, must have been 1 kg tomato, and then someone in the night from the fence stole it! That was pissing off

That was very bad of her. She didn't even care about the sacrifices made by the owner to plant and nuture those flowers and she stepped it take what dies not belong to her.
If you decide to take necessary actions now to sue her, she will tag you as wicked forgetting what she did was terrible.

Imagine how some people were even in defence of her that Posting her pic violate privacy. Why did she stepped beyond her own boundaries and take what doesn't belong to her? Does that nor violent the law too? And how then do we intend to catch her if her pictures were not shared?

Putting "YOU ARE ON CCTV" is a good idea but there are those who will find a way to evade that upon seeing the sign board.

There will be always a way to evade and even its not practical to spend time to check the CCTV, but at least it reduces such incidences by 80%.

Yeah, you are right. And since you can be there (in the garden) 24/7 securing your flowers, CCTV is a good way to keep an eye on it or checkmate what has happened.

Incidents like this often happen. I even have a niece who works in a shop who often complains about theft of beauty tools even though there is CCTV. And the saddest thing is that almost all the perpetrators of theft are women.

Hello dear friend @sanjeevm, how are you?

What you say is very true. There are some people who pretend to be something they're not, but it always comes to light when those who act inappropriately.

It's great that you installed a camera to monitor the plants you work so hard to grow into beautiful flowers.

This woman's attitude is incredible. She even denies what she's done. It's the last straw.

I honestly don't understand people who act this way sometimes.

Have a great day.

Hello Mr. @sanjeevm

I'm so sorry you went to such lengths to buy a surveillance camera to monitor your garden.

What a shame what happened to this woman. It's unbelievable. She even tried to deny what happened.

Wow, that is quite the story. Cameras are becoming pretty prominent everywhere these days. I don't think people realize just how much footage their is of them. I'm glad you found some kind of closure to the matter. Hopefully it will keep people from doing things in the future.

Who Are The Leaders of Hive?

Hive, a blockchain born of rebellion against centralization, now stands at a crossroads. Its ethos—decentralized, community-driven, and free—is shadowed by a corrosive reality: the unchecked power of entities like @themarkymark and @buildawhale, whose coordinated downvotes and acrimonious tactics have driven creators to despair. This is not governance; it is a tyranny of silence.

The Illusion of Leadership

Hive has no crowned sovereign. Its “leaders” are stewards: developers refining code, witnesses securing consensus, and communities shaping culture. Yet power, as history teaches, consolidates in vacuums. When accounts with vast Hive Power (HP) weaponize downvotes to stifle dissent, they erode the very democracy Hive was built to protect. This is not leadership—it is oligarchy masquerading as order.

The Exodus and the Alternative

Creators flee. Talented voices, weary of punitive curation, migrate to platforms like Blurt, where downvotes are absent and dialogue thrives. Blurt’s rise will be no accident; its simplicity—a sanctuary from Hive’s toxicity—highlights a fatal flaw in our ecosystem. A single change here could tip the scales. Imagine Blurt embraced by investors, listed on centralized exchanges, and fortified by liquidity. It needs only a catalyst.

A Plea for Unity—and Action

We cannot wait. Each downvoted post is a fracture in Hive’s foundation. To stem the exodus, we demand:

  1. Accountability: Transparency in curation trails. End the shadowy alliances that silence critics.
  2. Dialogue: Replace hostility with conversation. Downvotes should inform, not annihilate.
  3. Decentralized Governance: Empower communities to audit power structures. No account, regardless of HP, should wield unchecked influence.

Bilpcoin’s Pledge

The Bilpcoin team stands with Hive. We will:

  • Expose Truths: Audit transactions, trace power imbalances, and publish findings openly.
  • Amplify Voices: Reward constructive engagement with BPC tokens. Add #Bilpcoin or #BPC to your posts—earn while advocating for change.
  • Bridge Divides: Collaborate with witnesses, developers, and users to draft reforms.

The Hour Is Now

Hive’s promise—a haven for free expression—hangs in the balance. Will we cling to infighting, or rise as a community? The tools for change are ours: blockchain transparency, collective will, and the courage to demand better.

Join us. Audit wallets. Question power. Post fearlessly. Together, we can reclaim Hive’s soul—or watch its light dim as Blurt rises.

The choice is ours. Let it be written in history that we chose wisely.

Hive leadership crisis, decentralized governance reform, Blurt vs Hive, Bilpcoin transparency, blockchain accountability, downvote ethics.

#HiveTransparency #CommunityOverCensorship

@themarkymark @buildawhale & Co

You wield downvotes like a weapon, striking indiscriminately at whoever displeases you, whenever it suits your whim. And why? Why do you call people names as though their humanity is secondary to your ego? Is this how you justify your behavior—to diminish others so they might seem less worthy of fairness? You claim disdain for AI on Hive, yet your inner circle freely employs it without consequence. No downvotes for them, only for those outside your charmed circle. Tell us, why are you so selective in whom you punish and whom you protect?

https://hive.blog/hive/@themarkymark/re-bpcvoter2-swxxng

@themarkymark & Co.,

We are being completely honest here, and you know it. The transactions don’t lie—you cannot escape this, no matter who you bring in to back you up. It won’t work. You’ve already exposed many of those close to you, so let’s be clear: WE ARE NOT TROLLING YOU. WE ARE SIMPLY SHARING THE TRUTH. And the Bilpcoin team is far from stupid. Calling us names changes nothing—it only fuels our determination to work harder.

IT’S OVER.

SPEAK UP. MAKE NOISE. TAKE A STAND.

  • TURN OFF THE BUILDAWHALE SCAM FARM
  • STOP THE BAD DOWNVOTES
  • STOP PLAYING WITH PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOODS

Key Issues That Demand Immediate Attention:

The problems are glaring, undeniable, and corrosive to the Hive ecosystem. They must be addressed without delay:

  • Downvote abuse
  • Farming schemes
  • Speaking disrespectfully to others
  • Encouraging people to avoid certain users out of personal dislike
  • Self-voting with alt accounts
  • Self-funding projects through self-votes
  • Promoting games that don’t even exist (LOL)

These practices do not just harm individual users—they undermine the very foundation of Hive, eroding trust and poisoning the community. Such actions are not only unethical but outright destructive.

The blockchain data tells the story plainly and clearly. We are not fabricating these claims; we are merely presenting what is already visible for all to see. As we’ve repeatedly urged @themarkymark & Co—the solution is simple: STOP.

SO PLEASE STOP. It’s time to do what’s right for Hive and its community. Why cling to practices that harm others? Power down, step away, and let Hive thrive as it was meant to. You bring nothing positive to this ecosystem.

THOSE WHO ARE WATCHING—THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.

PLEASE STOP.

@themarkymark, Can You Explain Why the Bilpcoin Team’s Accounts Are on Your Blacklist?

@themarkymark We understand you’re a fan of data—so are we. After all, data is king, and when it comes to blockchain, transactions don’t lie and can’t be changed.
