[ESP/ENG] Reseña del libro ROMAN POR POLANSKI/ Review of the book ROMAN BY POLANSKI.

Hello, Hive Community! Today I share with you my impressions about a book I finished reading recently, called Roman by Polanksi. This is a Grijalbo publishing house edition, printed in 1985. The text is written (as its title suggests) by Roman Polanski, renowned filmmaker of Polish origin, responsible for iconic films such as Rosemary`s Baby, Chinatown, Tess or The Pianist. It is an autobiography where the filmmaker narrates different passages of his life chronologically, from his childhood in Poland during the Nazi and Soviet occupations, his beginnings in cinema, his arrival in the United States, the death of his wife, actress Sharon Tate, at the hands of the assassins sent by Charles Manson, his experiences during the filming of the movies he had made up to that moment and the scandal that defined his definitive escape from the North American country.

The book is written in a very pleasant way, resulting in a fluid reading that leaves you wanting to continue moving forward to learn more about the life of Polanski, who does not show himself as a hero or a victim, taking into account what he tells us, but as a person with virtues and flaws, with lights and shadows, who did not always make the best decisions and does not regret it.

For film buffs as well as for those trained in the area (as is my case), this book gathers anecdotes that lead to reflections on different aspects of filmmaking in its different aspects, whether in terms of screenwriting, working with actors, filming in unfavorable circumstances, among others, emphasizing that Polanski has always been a daring filmmaker and characterized by taking risks in his projects from the beginning of his career, even though he had everything against him. As a complement, there are different photographs of the filming of several of his movies, satisfying the reader's curiosity.

Roman by Polanski is a book that I highly recommend, especially for film buffs, as it is a story that addresses different aspects of life such as pain and resilience, success and failure. It also offers a demystification of Hollywood and the successful film director, demonstrating that much of what we see in the media is barely a sketch of what filmmakers actually live.

That was all for today. Thank you very much for reading.

Never heard about this one. I’m not precisely a fan of Polanski, but I’ll keep it in mind.
