Book Review: 12 Rules for Life
Hello book lovers and admirers of the quest for knowledge,
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to another book review where I will talk about another book by the author Jordan Peterson's titled 12 Rules for Life. He outlines the 12 rules everyone should align themselves with when navigating through the shackles of life. In today's post, we will look at rule 1, known as Stand up straight, your shoulders back.
Rule 1 from the book, Stand up straight, your shoulders back, has nothing to do with your posture but rather with accepting the responsibility that comes with life. Jordan Peterson makes you understand right from the beginning of the book that life comes with a fair share of responsibility placed on every individual, irrespective of whatever you might be going through. He goes further to even describe it as a necessity that comes with living in this world.
There are economic uncertainties, financial hustle for financial stability, your family to take care of, and yourself as well to take care of. No matter how hard you try, there will be some form of responsibility you have to take charge of, whether you are ready or not.
One thing I admire about books from authors like Jordan Peterson is how practical they tend to be with their words. They choose not to sugarcoat the truth; instead, they give it to you as real as it can be. Another author who does this, Robert Greene with the book The 48 Laws of Power. Abstractly, it is funny to me how I recommended the book to my friend @edicted some time in 2022, but after a search for the author's net worth, he took a pass on the book. I guess he was looking for something financial from a billionaire.
Well, back to the book at hand, Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life, Jordan teaches the importance of facing the problem of surviving head-on instead of running from it. Hence, the reason for the first rule:
Stand up straight, your shoulders back
It is literally impossible to avoid the suffering or pain life will throw our way. Frankly, because we do not know when it will come or from what angle. This goes to support the saying that you can not hide from what you did not see coming, and that is just it. Rather, you choose to face it head-on when it hits you in the face. You cannot tell when the problem will come in, and you do not know which window in your life it will use to get in; instead, you can choose how you decide to respond to it.
Do not run from it by pretending it does not exist, as this is a form of denial that could be much more costly than expected. Stand strong like a house built on solid ground, prepared for when the storm hits, as this is the script that comes with life. Although most of us might not be prepared for it or taught how to prepare for it, nonetheless, we have no other choice but to deal with the problem as it comes.
Lastly, do not be consumed by the notion that your life is worse or that you are not doing well simply because of what you see online on social media. It is all a fragment of the full story, and not everybody posts what is truly going on in their lives online. Embrace where you are right now, appreciate where you are heading to, and stand up straight, your shoulders back with the good posture it brings, and face that problem and responsibility life brings. This is the first lesson Jordan teaches in his book, 12 Rules for Life.
That is a wrap for this lesson. See you at the next one.

Yes when things don't go well. It's a very big setup for a turn around.
I should get this book then. I like how it points out taking responsibility. That’s how life is.

Yes that's it. There is no reason to run away if we would still with these things. Always better to just fight it head on
I love the lessons of this rule one. At the periphery , it didn't sound like the meaning , but reading what the rule is all about, it is packed with values
The suffering or pain that life throw on our way is normal and unavoidable , better to accept it and face the reality than feeling otherwise .
